Phil had seen a lot, he was a doctor after all, but this was new. On the hospital bed in room 301 sat a 15 year old with no hair and a dark blue beanie, he looked so tired yet there he was screaming along to guantanamera. The teen seemed to notice the new doctor's arrival yet instead of turning his music down and proceeding with a check up, he motioned for the doctor to come closer. Phil was apprehensive at first but he came closer and let his patient do whatever he was gonna do.
"Names Alex, but I prefer Quackity. My body is pretty weak which is something we can't control but my spirits are high so let's keep it that way. Do whatever you need to do, ask whatever you need to ask." And that's when Phil knew this was all real, he was now caring for a sick teenager that even though he looked as if he shouldn't be able to stand, he danced and sang in the confines of his bed.
"I'm Phil, or Philip, or Philza, whatever makes you happy."
"Doctor Phil is that you" Quackity spoke in an exaggerated mexican accent with a wide smile on his face. If it was another situation, any other person, Phil would have probably questioned why he was named this way and why he chose the career path he did but in the moment he just laughed and matched Quackity's smile.
Phil remembered what he had come into the room for and he took a deep breath. Looking through the papers he learned pretty quickly that Alex has Hodgkin lymphoma (a type of cancer), hence the no hair. He learned that Alex was on chemo once a week and after his chemo he was on bed rest for two to three days after. Philza nodded his head and put the papers away.
"How are you feeling Quackity?"
"A bit tired, this is my second day after chemo, I think this will probably be one of the rare weeks I stay in here for another day." At this point Quackity had turned off the music and focused his full attention on the man in a white coat.
"Have you eaten today? Or are you too nauseous?"
"I haven't really tried to eat anything, because of being on bed rest I can't walk down to the cafeteria and grab whatever. So I wait and the nurse will come in around now and ask how much I think I can eat and whatever I answer with he grabs that and a bit more just in case." Phil nodded and checked his watch, he was a bit confused by the whole nurse supposedly being male as that wasn't common in the medical field. Even though they had just met, Philza somewhat felt pride that the teen knew so much about himself and how much he could take. And as if on cue
*knock*
*knock*
"Come in Sam," Quackity knew this person, Phil assumed it was the nurse. In stepped a tall buff guy in scrubs and a staff id that read 'nurse Sam'. With so many surprises today, Phil wasn't too shocked but he was still a little shook.
"What is it you would like to eat today, Quackity?"
"I was thinking just some strawberries, thank you," and like that Sam turned out the door to go retrieve Alex his meal.
After a few minutes Sam returned with strawberries and a chocolate pudding cup, Quackity chuckled and thanked Sam. Sam left the room for the last time during Phils check up.
"You're looking pretty good, one last question, are you sleeping well?"
"Not the best, sometimes I get woken up from nausea." Phil had expected something to that effect.
"Well, try your best to rest during the day, and along with dinner I'll make sure they bring sleeping meds up"
"Thanks doc, tell the others I said hi."
"Will do." and with that Alex resumed his music and Phil stepped out. This was gonna be a long day, but Phil didn't feel regret.
After writing down a bit about the visit with Quackity, Phil headed back to the halls and onto the next room, this room apparently had two people staying in it. There he was standing outside the mixed room 302 and 303. He took a deep breath, smiled wide, and opened the door.
