I want to, but I don't ...

I really want to join some groups because I've always enjoyed participating in them and it gives me more of an opportunity to practice my design work. But with the way I've been seeing groups run of late I don't want to go through the hassle of joining. And no one would accept me because I'd immediately tell them their interview questions are idiotic and if they gave me tasks for shit I can't do I'd tell them hell no.

I have graphic designer friends who join groups and I hear about the seriously idiotic questions they ask. One of my friends had the interviewer give her the task of creating a cover and banner, what's wrong with performing a task? Nothing usually, but let me tell you why this task was so wrong. To begin with she had requested said cover from my friend and been DENIED already in another shop. Two, it was a vector cover which she no longer does because they're so much work for little return. She listed that she does manip and simple covers when the interviewer asked what she makes, yet the interviewer threw this vector task at her. If you gave me a task for something I didn't list I'd tell you to shove it. Not to mention it was denied in a shop already by they interviewee. If a group wants to assign tasks to test a designer's skill, they should be set prompts and the interviewers should all use that same prompt. Asking for a cover for your personal works is an abuse of power, you're attempting to get free graphics for your personal works.

So I won't be joining any groups even if I want to because I'm quite certain the information that I'm a bitch would spread rapidly. Sorry, but I'm just too old to deal with small children who think they're being smart by throwing questions at you using words no normal person would use in a conversation. Nor do I know a damn thing about classic art design, I'm not an artist, I'm a graphic designer and they are NOT the same thing. I am not trained in design, I'm self taught, as are most designers here so asking about classic art techniques is just plain stupid.

I remember the days when the groups would ask for your design examples, how long you've been designing and a few other random questions about how long you plan to be in the group and so on. There were no stupid interviews with tasks. My examples show off my skill set, why do I need to do tasks to show off my skill?

*gets off soap box and quietly places it back into its corner* Right, I'm done now.
