We all know that Wattpad covers the world and there are people here from many different countries. A lot of them do not speak English as a first language. You'll for certain find profiles in other languages but for the majority of the accounts people use English. Whether it's American English or British English.
Can I tell you guys something? Google translate is about the worst possible thing you can use to translate. It is the most useless thing created and 99% of the time it doesn't work. It will leave you with something so horribly written it isn't understandable. Yet, I'm quite convinced this is what people are using to write in English when it isn't their first language because I swear it's so garbled it's impossible to read. English works in a vastly different way than most other languages and it's one of the most difficult languages to learn, even for those of us who grew up speaking it. It's confusing as hell.
I've seen so many backward, non-sensical sentences it makes my head hurt. Worse yet, is the people who make up words because they aren't certain how to write it in English. If you aren't certain then Google it. It's easy! What's the correct spelling of *insert word here*. Generally if you get the spelling close enough Google will figure it out.
Smelt is never the past tense of smell in American English. Ever. In America this is the process for extracting metal from ore. In British English they use smelt and smelled, either is correct for them. If you're writing in American English or for an American audience, then you need to know how to use the language correctly. We're confusing, we know that.
Patiently < that's how it's spelled. I can't tell you how many different variations I've seen of it, almost all of them so so wrong. But if you're patiently waiting for something that is how it's spelled.
It's a good idea to have someone who speaks whatever language you're attempting to use check out what you've written and make certain you're doing things correctly. This is one of the reasons I no longer read and review on here, I'm tired of ending up with a migraine from attempting to decipher what people are writing.
