Betty went to Pop's right after school just like she had promised Jughead. She was so excited. She sat down in her usual booth and waited for Jughead. Veronica walked in and sat down with Betty.
"Hey V. What's up?" Betty wasn't expecting Veronica to be here with her today.
"Can't I come and enjoy a milkshake with my girl?" Veronica had seen Betty talk to Jughead and wanted to know who he was.
"Veronica I know you better than that. What's going on?" Betty was suspicious of Veronica.
"Fine. Who was that boy you were talking to at your locker earlier?" Veronica's curiosity had gotten the better of her and she desperately wanted to know who Jughead was.
"His name is Jughead. Well, actually it's Forsythe Pendleton Jones III. I hit him with my locker by accident and invited him here to make it up to him." Betty couldn't help blushing while she was talking about him. There was just something about him that she couldn't get out of her head.
"Oh my God! You totally like him!" Veronica could see the blush growing on Betty's cheeks.
"What? No, I don't!" Betty knew Veronica could tell she was lying.
"B you're a terrible liar. You like him!" Veronica knew Betty couldn't hide the truth from her.
"Okay fine! I like him! Oh, here he comes!" Betty ran to another booth so she could be alone with him.
Jughead walked into the diner and saw Betty waving to him. He didn't want to be rude so he waved back to get and walked over to her.
"Hey, Jughead." Betty couldn't control her smile when he walked over to her.
"Hi." He somehow didn't feel awkward around Betty. He actually felt really happy and comfortable.
"I'm glad you agreed to meet me here. I felt awful for hitting you with my locker." Betty looked down at the ground.
"It's really not a big deal Betty. Actually, I'm glad you did. It gave me an opportunity to talk to you." Jughead felt his cheeks turning a bright red.
"Really?" Betty looked up confused.
"Yeah. I've actually been wanting to tell you something for a long time." Jughead darted his eyes back and forth.
"Well, what is it?" Betty was genuinely curious about what Jughead would say.
"I've had a huge crush on you since we were ten years old. But you never seemed to notice me." Jughead felt the color on his cheeks change from a bright red to a slightly deeper shade of red.
"Wow." Betty felt so embarrassed that she had barely paid attention to Jughead.
"You know? Just because I didn't really pay attention to you that doesn't mean I never noticed you." Betty tried to sound more confident than she felt.
"What do you mean?" Now Jughead was genuinely curious about what Betty would say.
"When we started at Riverdale High last year I actually noticed you more because you were the only guy who didn't give any signs that you were into me. I had all these guys try to ask me out but I turned them down because I wasn't interested. Although, I think that Archie might be into me. He always does stuff to make it seem like he's interested but has never said anything. In all honesty, I haven't ever seen him as more than a friend. You? I may have only known you for less than a day but this feels real. I feel like there's a connection. You know? I haven't ever felt a connection with other guys at Riverdale High. But this is different." Betty looked down in embarrassment and her cheeks turned a shade of red that matched Jughead's.
This time it was Jughead's turn to be surprised. He couldn't believe that Betty felt a connection with him over all the other guys at Riverdale High. He couldn't keep his jaw from dropping in surprise.
"So... What do we do now?" Jughead really wanted Betty to be his girlfriend but he didn't know if she would ever date a Southsider like him.
"Well... Do you want to be my boyfriend?" Betty said it in a quieter voice than she would have liked but she was really embarrassed.
"I really want to. But there's something you should know about me first. I don't know if this would be a deal-breaker for you but... I live on the Southside of town. And... I don't know if you would date a Southsider like me." Jughead was really embarrassed that he had admitted that to her but she deserved to know.
"It's not a deal-breaker. So. Will you be my boyfriend or not?" Betty didn't care if Jughead lived on the Southside of Riverdale or not. She loved him no matter what.
"You know what? I might just take you up on that." Jughead was so happy. He was finally the boyfriend of his longtime crush. He didn't think this could get any better.
