You know that feeling you get when you brake your mother's most prized possession? She's told you a million times not to play ball in the house but you already have that mind set like 'oh I play in the house all the time and nothing bad ever happens' and then you bounce that ball and it hits the vase or whatever it is and it brakes. You get that awful pit in your stomach and you know as soon as your mom finds out it's the end of the world for you. That large dreaded feeling like a ton of weights had just been dropped onto your shoulder.
That's what I felt right now, in this very moment, only, about ten times worse.
"Maka what do you mean? it's me, soul." I tell her, hoping she was just joking around.
She pressed her back against the wall. "I don't know you, I don't know anyone, or why I'm here. You're just one of them! You're just going to hurt me like they do! I didn't even do anything wrong yet they are so horrible to me and I don't know why." my heart hurt. She looked so vulnerable, so broken, so. . . Afraid. She was on the verge of tears.
"I promise you Maka that's not why I'm here. I'm here to help. I'm a friend." She looked at me uncertainly.
"You look scary for a friend, you look like a bad guy to me."
Well. . . That's reassuring.
"Sir, we've got to get going, if we stay in one spot for too long they'll find us. I think I already hear footsteps." one of my men said.
"Maka, please trust me. I'm here to save you. I promise I won't let anyone hurt you anymore." I hold out my hand for her. She stares at it for a moment.
"Promise?"
"With every bit of my body." She takes my hand and I cut of the chains binding her ankles and wrists. I help her up and she has to lean on me for support. She's very wobbly so I carry her on my back.
I looked at the big burly man.
"I've got what I need out of you." I go to cut him down.
"Wait!" he instantly drops to his knees in the begging position. "please take me with you! I don't want to stay here anymore! she's completely horrid please! I promise I'll be loyal to you! I promise I'm good!"
I looked at my men and they shrugged.
"One chance, that's it. If I suspect anything kiss your life goodbye."
"Thank you." he got off the ground and we started through the palace again. Either to find an exit or go help the others, whichever came first.
After a bit I almost collided with black star rounding a corner. We both were poised to strike, until we realized we were on the same team.
"Where's all your team?" he asked me.
"I sent most of them to go help."
"What's one your back?"
I felt Maka move.
"Oh my god it's Maka." he says in shock.
Tsubaki transformed from her chain scythe and ran to Maka.
"Wait don't!" I try to warn her but too late.
Tsubaki holds Maka's face in her hands and starts caressing and asking questions. Before Tsubaki can even make it through the first word Maka makes a startled noise, yanks her face away and buries it in my opposite shoulder. Tsubaki looks at me for answers.
I sighed. "she doesn't remember you, she doesn't remember me either. Frankly, I don't think she remembers anything. It took some convincing to get her to even come with me."
