Soul's pov

Alarm washed over me and I started forward. Stein gently pushed me back.

"It's ok. She just passed out from pain. She's going to be ok. She's a strong one."

I couldn't help but smile. "Yeah, yeah she is." I said.

Stein had a few more things to finish up and his hands were all bloody. Now that I wasn't comforting Maka, I was just getting a little disgusted when looking at the tools and the clotted and starting to dry blood on them.

"I'll go tell everyone that she is ok." I tell Stein after he confirms he's done and puts bandages on her back. "Don't get any ideas" I warn him, knowing what he has been known to do and our first encounter suddenly popping into my head.

He smirks a little but nods his head. I tell one of  the nurses to keep an eye on him and she nods but has a little worried/scared expression plastered on her face. I grabbed the handle and twisted the nob, walking slowly into the waiting room where everyone was sitting eagerly. Maka's mom was sitting by her ex-husband consoling him. A few tears brimmed her eyes as well. Kidd, sat between Liz and patty, sitting on the edge of his seat while Liz rubbed his back, staring straight ahead with a blank expression. Patty was curled up on the other side of kidd, looking completely out of character. She was silent and had a solemn look on her face.

Black star also looked out of character. For one, he wasn't boasting, and he wasn't moving around like I thought he would be. He was staring somewhere into space like everyone else but he was holding Tsubaki as her face was buried into his shoulder. I didn't see lord death in the room, but it was obvious he had a city to attend to.

They all looked up at me expectantly when I walked into the room. Her parents stood up as well.

"She's going to be ok." I say, before anybody could get a word out. Everyone visibly released a breathe of relief, including me. "Well, at least she's going to live. We won't know how well the surgery actually worked until she wakes up." I say, spouting the truth, and I know we are all hoping it worked or else this would all be so incredibly pointless and Maka would be absolutely devastated.

"It's still good news." Maka's mom says, sounding more than relieved to hear the news. I nod in agreement. I was about to suggest that we all go home and get some rest, but I knew no one would agree to go anyway, they would all want to stay for little longer, even possibly till Maka woke up.

I took up one of the seats and rested an elbow on my knee and putting my head on my palm. I sighed.

After a bit Stein came out and talked for a bit. He was all cleaned up and told us we could visit Maka now, even though she was very much asleep.

When we walked in, Maka was turned back over but she had more pillows, bandages and icepacks and more anesthetics. Her blonde hair was a halo around her head, spread out on the pillow, and despite everything, she looked peaceful. I sighed again. 'Oh Maka, just when you wake up, you fall asleep again. What am I supposed to do with you?'

Stein told us that the city was short on people and could really use our help securing the city, rebuilding the outer walls, and taking care of inhabitants. Along with putting back together the tunnels so we could actually get through them and be a little bit safer. The tunnels would have a new design of course.

The others agreed, if not hesitantly, but decided they should be putting work to make sure everyone in town was secure. I still stayed, reluctantly looking at Stein.

"You'll be the first to know if anything happens." Stein assures me, giving me a pointed look.

I shove my hands into my pocket and look up at the ceiling, giving a sigh of defeat. The town needing all the help it could get and there wasn't much I could do for Maka at this point.
