Souls pov
"Are we almost there?!" Patty whined.
"Yes we are patty and if you would stop complaining we might actually get there faster" Kid said and he sounded extremely irritated.
Patty finally shut up but that didn't stop her from bouncing in her seat a little, and lucky me, I got to sit by her.
Kid came to a screeching halt when a fog billowed up in front of us.
"We're here" Kid said calmly. I don't understand how this kid could always be so calm... well except when something wasn't symmetrical, what a loser.
We all piled out of the car and stood examining the fog. It was fog but it also seemed like smoke at the same time. It seemed to bounce off an invisible barrier like it had limits to where it could go.
As far as I'm concerned fog doesn't just do that.
We all looked at each other, understanding each other's thoughts perfectly.
"Liz, Patty" Kid said.
"Right" they responded and transformed into twin guns.
"Tsubaki" Black*Star said.
"Right" She responded and transformed into her multi-weapon chain scythe.
"Soul" Maka said.
I didn't need to say anything and just transformed into my red and black scythe. I spun through the air and Maka caught me, her gloved hands feeling natural gripping onto my handle.
We walked into the fog instantly becoming blind. We grouped into a tight circle making sure to stay with each other at all times. We inched along trying to take in our surroundings, we couldn't rely on sight so we needed to listen carefully and smell for anything that smelled odd.
After what seemed liked hours a howling could be heard through the fog. It sent a shiver up my spine.
"What, was that?" Liz asked. She was totally scared.
"I don't know, it doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard of before. I think dad might have underestimated this thing." Kid said.
"Do you think we should turn back?" Tsubaki asked.
"No we can't, there still might be students somewhere in here, and it's our job as DWMA students to go rescue them." Maka says, on the alert for any attacks that might come.
"I agree with Maka, nothing is to much to handle for black*star" Said black*star. I really just wanted to strangle his neck, could he stop being cocky for just a few minutes!?
"But guys, we still aren't fully recovered, this could end badly, plus this is really creepy." Liz whined.
"oh lighten up big sis! It's just a little bit of fog" Patty giggled.
"What do you think soul?" Maka asks. I am bewildered that she asked me. I think for a moment.
"honestly it's up to you guys, we are still pretty injured from asura, but even so there are students who need her help and I wouldn't be able to show my face if I knew I didn't even try to save a couple of kids." I said.
"Then let's stop wasting time and let's go" Kid said.
We kept shuffling along at a leisurely pace when another howl came, closer this time and another one that sounded even closer and to our left.
Suddenly we walked into a clearing. A perfect circle where no fog seemed to be able to go, like the invisible barrier was back.
All was quiet, too quiet.
Then, out of nowhere, something erupted from the fog and hit Maka square in the back, making her yelp and sprawl on the ground. She still gripped me tightly.
"Come on Maka get up!" I yelled.
She peeled herself off the ground as the thing that hit her came into view. It was about eight feet tall and the body of a spider with eight legs. It had the jest area of a very buff man but with four muscular, tattooed arms. It's face was a giant metal clown face. When it walked the sound of metal hitting stone was heard as if it's spidery legs had metal sealed to them bottom of them. From our left a second one emerged, looking similar to the first.
We stood ready at attention, waiting for the next attack. These monsters didn't look like any keshin I've ever seen before.
Their heads rotated clockwise and when it reached a full rotation they gave out a horrible screech.
soul get ready. Maka said in my mind.
The creatures screamed, running towards us. Kid and black*star handled one while me and Maka handled the other. The launched attack after attack in which Maka kept dodging and adding additional attacks but nothing was taking affect.
Maka got hit in the stomach sending her backwards. She skidded to a halt in a crouch.
Are you ready soul? Maka asked.
Are you sure Maka? You might not be able to handle it. Your, we are still recovering.
I'm sure soul lets go.
Ok whatever you say. . . idiot. I mutter the last part sure she doesn't hear it.
"LET'S GO SOUL RESONANCE!" We both yell.
My blade glowed and grew bigger. But something felt off between our souls. Our soul wavelengths didn't really match up even if it was ever so slightly.
Before I could tell Maka she was already running at the creature. She swung, my blade going deep into the creature's side, leaving her wide open.
Then something strange happened. My blade shattered out of it's resonance and I was thrown across the clearing, ripped out of Maka's grip. I jumped out of scythe form just to see Maka hit with such force I cringed. She let out a terrible scream and flew into the fog.
"MAKA!" I yelled. I looked at my surroundings. Black*Star and Kid almost had the monster in under control, they were doing pretty well. I started running in the direction Maka had flown, but was instantly stopped by the creature.
