Chapter 28

Maka's Pov

"Witch hunter!" I shout before collapsing another part of the tunnel. I've been collapsing the roof about every 20 yards, but I'm getting a little tired. Using witch hunter so many times is really taxing.

"Maka take it easy! Don't push yourself too hard." Soul says.

"You don't have to remind me, but what else am I, we, supposed to do. Protecting the city is our number one priority Soul."

"I know that, but I worry about you, about all of us. It wasn't that long since we battled asura, and took on arachne a few times. I just hope everyone is doing ok."

"Since when did you become the logical and worry one? It's not like you."

"I guess you are finally beginning to rub off on me." He says, and I can just feel his smirk.

I rolled my eyes, and collapsed the roof a few more times. I had to be careful where I cut. I don't want the houses above to cave in, and I don't want the whole cavern to collapse or else it would bury Soul and I and anyone else who might be in here, which might be good for dealing with the army, but not good for the miesters trying to help. We are going to need all the man power we can get.

I turned a corner and practically ran into a few students.

"Maka!" They all stood at attention. There were five miester's and their weapons. One of the weapons was Tsugami and her two meisters.

"We were hoping to run into one of you. Lord death sent us out to help the four of you who had already gone into the tunnels." I think her name was anya said. She was one of Tsugami's miesters.

"Alright great." I pulled out a copy of the map, as did the rest of them. I mapped out the areas the others were covering and the areas I had I already covered. I then gave them each separate routes to take so we wouldn't end up trapping anybody. We split apart and began our duties, doing whatever we could to delay Arachnae, or better yet, stop her in her tracks.

When I was done with my route, I ran back to the rendezvous point. No one else was back yet so Soul transformed and we waited for the others.

He held my hand and drew circles on my palm. I admit, it calmed me a little. All my feelings were so erratic due to all this new information, getting my memories back and having to go straight into battle to defend my home.

After waiting awhile, the rest of the students weren't back yet and I got a really uneasy feeling. It shouldn't take them this long.

I told Soul to transform again and started down one of the routes. It wasn't long before we heard a scream and a few crashes. I already knew what to expect when I turned the corner.

Two students lay on the floor. A girl protected by a boy who I assumed was her weapon. The boy had needles in his back and slumped against the girl. The girl continuously shouted at him to wake up, she was worried and scared.

"It's going to be ok! he'll be fine, trust me. Those needles aren't lethal, they'll just knock you out for a bit." Unless it's changed " get him out of here. I'll take care of this."

She nodded then hauled the boy onto her back, leaving as fast as she could. The beast in front of me, who never left my vision during this exchange, wasn't all too happy about their departure. It shot a few needles towards them, I which I easily deflected them until they were safely around the corner.

I stared at the machine in front of me. It looked the same from our last encounter. It had a handful of arachnae's followers around it. I wondered where the rest of them were, but figured it wouldn't be too long before they caught up, which meant I needed to finish this quickly and collapse the tunnel.
