Darkness

*Logan's POV*

Mia looks like a beautiful avenging ballerina. Her movements are fluid and effortless while also fast and swift. I see two more wolves heading her way and instinctively take a step towards them. "I got this, Logan. Protect our son!", Mia says to me without missing a single beat.

I can feel her power through our bond, it's mind boggling. I look behind me to see three wolves rounding AJ. 'Protect. Kill.' says Raegor and I completely agree. If any of these mangy rogues hurts my pup, I will tear them to pieces. I leap over one of the rogues and land next to AJ. We stand back to back and I whisper. "Leave two for me, take the smallest." He nods and immediately tackles the youngest one to the ground. 

We're still fighting these wolves when an SUV pulls up and Steven jumps out of it. He starts towards us when AJ yells "We got this, godfather. Help my mom." I break the neck of the wolf I'm fighting and turn in time to see Steven join Mia. They were completely in sync, when Mia attacked left, Steven attacked right. They obviously had practiced a lot. And did AJ call him godfather? 

I'm so lost in my thoughts that I don't see the wolf coming for AJ on time. I won't make it and AJ is being held by another wolf.

*Carolina's POV*

I've got Marius by the neck and I say "You failed, you won't be able to kill me." As the life leaves his eyes he smiles. "We didn't come here for you." I snap his neck as I turn around to see a wolf headed for AJ. I feel a surge of power flow through me and run at full speed towards AJ. Only I'm fast enough to reach him, only I can save my baby.

In an instant, I'm in front of him and I feel the tip of a silver knife plunge into my chest. A scream sounds in my head. I don't know if the scream is mine or Logan's.  The she wolf that stabbed me smiles, but only for a split second because Logan rips her heart out in one swift move. She falls to the ground and I can see Logan covered in blood holding her heart. He's never looked sexier, I think, before darkness envelops me.

*Logan's POV*

My mate collapses and my soul collapses with her. I growl, more wolf than human, and drop to my knees next to Mia. Steven takes a step closer to us and I snap at him. "Mine!" Raegor's yell rips from my throat. AJ drops next to me and starts to howl. His pain as raw as mine. My son is falling apart and I can't even help him. Steven lowers his head is a submissive gesture, "Logan, she's still alive! Can you feel her through the bond? She needs the pack's doctor."

I reach through the bond and find her, weak and fading, but alive. I mind link my Beta, "Is Jordan with you?" Jordan is the most capable doctor the pack has and the only one I can trust with my mate. "She is, she's in the car behind me. Are you hurt Alpha?" "No, but Mia is." I feel tears stream down my face as I relay what happened.

Steven pulls AJ aside to give Jordan space when she arrives. She's fast and efficient, giving orders one after the other. In less than 10 minutes she's inside performing emergency surgery on my mate on top of the kitchen table.
