Thursday evening.
September 23, 1999*Carolina's POV*
I'm pacing back and forth in my small living room, waiting anxiously for Max, when the doorbell rings. My heart beats a thousand times per minute and my mouth suddenly feels dry. I run to the door and take a second to compose myself before opening it. What am I doing? I've never had a boy over, besides Logan. I open the door to find a smiling Max holding a beautiful rose in his hands.
"Hi." "Hi, Leena", he says handing me the rose. "Thanks! Come in." We sit on the couch, side by side, almost touching but not quite. He inhales deeply and cocks his head to the right side. "How are you feeling, Leena?", he asks, tenderly touching the bruised side of my face. "Oh, fine, great, amazing! Am I babbling? I babble when I'm nervous. Not that you make me nervous, please stop me." I say covering my face with my hands. He takes my hands in his and smiles openly at me. A good smile, not Logan's angelic smile, but good nonetheless.
"If it helps, I'm also nervous. I'm about to ask you out and I don't know if you'll say yes.", he says. I must be dreaming. Guys that look like Max don't ask girls that look like me out. It just doesn't happen.
Max sees my hesitation and interprets it as a rejection. "Ok, so I guess I should get going, then" he says standing up. "YES!" I say way too excitedly. His smile falters and he starts towards the door. "Wait, I mean yes, I'll go out with you, if you really want to, I mean." He smiles again, "You are adorable, Leena. How about tomorrow? Pick you up at 6?"
He's so close to me now. I can feel his body heat, he's that close. I nod my head, unable to formulate any words. He looks like he's about to kiss me when I hear someone clearing their throat. I don't look away from Max, I don't have to in order to know that Logan is standing a few feet from us.
*Logan's POV*
I arrived at Mia's house after my shift at the coffee house. I couldn't concentrate at work, at all. Raegor kept telling me to go to Mia, kept reminding me that a wolf we didn't know was trying to move in on what was ours.
As I let myself in, I can hear them set up a date. Then I see them, are they about to kiss? Raegor goes crazy and honestly so do I. I've always known that someday someone would notice how amazing Mia is and then she'd start dating. I just always thought it would be a human. The other wolves in my pack know to stay away from her. I want her safe and being with a wolf is not safe for a human.
Max straightens to his full height of about 6 feet. Does he feel jealous? Doesn't he know I can have his wolf bowing to mine if I want? "Is this normal, Leena? Logan can just walk right into your house like he owns it?" He asks looking from her to me. I can feel the tension in the air. I want to wipe off that smirk on his face. "Yes, Max. Logan basically lives here. He's like my brother. My mom and Diego love him like family as well. We're kind of a packaged deal, is that a problem?", she asks.
"Yeah, Maxie boy, is that a problem?", I ask crossing my arms over my chest. Max shakes his head, "If he's like your brother, then I don't have any problem with it, none at all. See you tomorrow, Leena.", he answers and then gives her a kiss on the cheek. I lose control and Raegor takes over.
*Carolina's POV*
I go back into the living room, after walking Max out, to find Logan pacing back and forth. He looks like a caged animal as he runs his hands through his hair. He senses me and looks up, then he stalks towards me.
He reminds me of a predator stalking his prey. He stops when our lips are a hair away from touching. I stop breathing, time stops, the world stops. He breathes me in, closing his eyes to calm himself down. When he opens his eyes again, they are the most brilliant shade of amber I've ever seen. He looks at my lips, then my eyes, then my lips again. "Angel, what is happening?!"
He slowly starts moving his nose up the side of my face. I hear a low purr that turns into a soft growl when he reaches the spot Max just kissed. Then, he licks the same spot. It should feel gross, but it's such a possessive gesture that it feels so right. I feel a shock run through my body and I can tell he feels it too.
He sighs and hugs me against his chest. "Angel?" "Just let me hold you, Mia. I'm trying not to lose control. I've never felt this before and I don't know how to handle it. I just need to hold you. Promise me that we'll always be Angel and Mia, a packaged deal." Ohhhh, he's feeling threatened. He's never had to share me with anybody. I know exactly how he feels, I've had to share him with many people for years. I hug him tightly, "I promise. You'll always be my best friend."
