*Logan's POV*
"What part of 'stay away from Carolina Cruz' did you not understand?" My uncle asks from the chair behind his desk.
Cindy had come crying to him once she realized I was serious about going to the prom with Mia. I look up at him, my mind completely made up.
"You don't have to worry. She'll leave for Boston in a couple of months and I'll stay here. I understand that she's not my mate, but she is my friend and I made a promise to her a long time ago. An alpha keeps his word." My uncle studies me, trying to figure out my angle.
"Very well. You can go with her, but this will be the last day you spend with her." Damn it, I thought I had a few more months to be with her. Still, I can give her the best night of her life. I can make her prom unforgettable. With a bow of my head, I accept my uncle's terms.
*Carolina's POV*
Prom night! Can you believe it? I kept expecting Logan to get back to Cindy but it didn't happen. She even stopped sitting with us during lunch. I don't want to get my hopes up but I think this time he might not take her back. Logan has been pretty busy with basketball, work and his music band. He was accepted into Sterling U on a basketball scholarship and I couldn't be more proud. We've been spending every spare second together and it's starting to feel like our relationship is evolving.
My mom finishes doing my hair and I hear her crying behind me. "Ma, don't cry." "I wish your father were here. He'd be so proud of you." "I miss him, too." We hug and I go to stand in front of the mirror. I'm wearing a silver colored sleeveless corset with an A line full length skirt. I look pretty, not like a model, but still very pretty. My makeup is perfectly done and my curls elegantly cascade down my back. I feel amazing and I can't wait for Logan to see me.
I walk down the stairs to find Logan waiting for me at the bottom with a dumbfounded look on his face. He looks me up and down and then starts to undo his tie. "Wow, just...Wow!" I blush and say, "Yeah, keep it coming. A lot of hours went into this look." He takes my hand and puts a beautiful corsage on it. "You look stunning, Mia." He says as he kisses my hand.
We dance all night and I catch Logan looking at my body more than once. I can feel the heat of his gaze over me. There's no way he can say that I'm misinterpreting him. He wants me. Logan Matthews wants me. We are dancing to a Brian Adams' song when Logan starts to sing in my ear. 'When you love a woman you tell her that she's really wanted
When you love a woman you tell her that she's the one
'Cause she needs somebody to tell her that it's gonna last forever'
I'm captivated by his voice. I can feel he means every word. Slowly, so slowly, he starts to move his lips from my ear, to my neck, to my chin and we are about to kiss when Cindy shows up. "I'm sorry to interrupt whatever this is, but the elite is about to take a picture and we need Logan." Logan keeps his arm around my waist as he says, "Is that okay with you, Mia?" I smile and quote my favorite character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Five by five." Cindy snickers, " We don't speak loser." "She means it's ok. Let's go before I change my mind."
I make my way towards the punch table and drink some of the red liquid. Wow, this punch is seriously spiked! I've never had alcohol before but I figure what the hell, you only live once. I finish the punch in my cup and Logan is still waiting in line for a picture. I start to feel self conscious when Max invites me to dance. Mambo No. 5 is on and we start to dance to the beat of the song.
"I enlisted in the Army. I leave right after graduation." He says proudly. I remember it was his dream and I give him a hug. He tightens the hug and whispers in my ear "I miss you, Leena." before he tries to kiss me. I move my head, "I'm sorry, Max. It's just that I think Logan and I will finally get together." He frowns. "Does HE know that?", he says as he turns me around and I see Logan and Cindy kissing in front of the photographer.
I feel the sudden need to leave, to run and run and not look back. I excuse myself and run like crazy out of there. I run pass the dancing people, pass the open doors, pass the couples making out in the parking lot, pass the hotel entrance and into the street. My shoes start to bother me so I take them off. I don't even know where I'm headed, I just need to keep moving.
Then, I hear a car stop next to me. I stop and look at Logan. His hair is disheveled and his lips are smeared with lipstick. "Nice shade." I say pointing at my own lips. He understands and cleans his lips with the back of his hand. He gets out and opens the passenger door. "We need to talk." I get in, but only because my feet are killing me and I don't want to have to call my mom to pick me up.
Logan drives us to his apartment. I know that Steven is spending the night at Eve's, so we'll be able to talk freely. I walk into the apartment and stop in the middle of the living room. Logan stands by the door, almost as if he's still deciding whether to come in or run away. The apartment is mostly dark, illuminated only by the moonlight coming in through the glass doors that lead to the balcony.
"Why did you leave? Do you have any idea how worried I was when I came back and people told me you were gone?" "I left because I couldn't take it anymore." My voice sounds strange, small, defeated.
"I thought we were having fun." "Yes, until I saw you mouth fucking Cindy." "It was just a kiss for the photographer. She kissed me for a picture.I felt nothing." I throw my hands up in defeat. "What about me? HOW DO YOU THINK I FEEL?! When I see you kissing her it hurts right here,"I say hitting my chest with my fist, "When I see you with her...I want to die. Can't you see? Don't you know how much I LOVE YOU?"
The words are barely out of my mouth when Logan's lips crash into mine. This kiss is different from our first kiss. This kiss is raw, passionate and desperate. His hands are everywhere, in my hair, on my back, on my face. I want more, I need more. I pull at his jacket and he takes it off in an instant, then I start to unbutton his shirt without breaking the kiss. I seem to take too long and in frustration Logan breaks the buttons and throws the shirt on the ground.
I pull him to me again and the kiss gets somehow deeper as my hands roam every muscle of his back and his abs. He's perfect in every way. I pull away from him and he growls at me and says "Mine" in a low breathy tone. "Yours." I say before I take his hand and I guide him into his bedroom.
