*Logan's POV*

I'm seething, "How is it possible for two wolves to come into my territory without my consent?" I ask my Beta. Somebody had to know something about Carolina. I NEED to see her, to earn her forgiveness and her love. Raegor wouldn't let me sleep all night. I drove past Carla's house but it was obvious Mia hadn't been there recently. I also drove past Diego's apartment building but it was useless. Where could she be staying?

Brian bows his head before answering, "Are you talking about the wolves from Boston, Alpha?" "YES! Why wasn't I notified of their visit?" "Alpha Joseph signed a treaty with the Boston Pack years ago that allows their Alpha and his family to come into our territory freely. The treaty still stands."

I looked the treaty up in our files and sure enough, there's my uncle's signature and, under it, Mia's. My uncle knew. He knew where Carolina was this whole time. Not only that, he knew that she was a werewolf and he hid it from me. I searched for Mia for years and she was in Boston this whole time.

I can't even be mad at my uncle for hiding her from me. I deserve it. I deserve to have suffered all those years away from her, wondering where she was, wondering if she still loved me. I deserve all those endless nights when dreams of her would torture me.

After prom, I did an excellent job of ignoring her. I acted like she and her family didn't even exist. I flaunted conquest after conquest in front of her. I was trying to convince both of us that nothing could ever happen between us again.

Mia became distant and cold with everyone, a shadow of her former self. She left town right after graduation. The whole pack remembers that day. We were having a graduation party at the pack house, for all the graduating wolves, when Max told me she was gone for good. It was like something burst inside of me, I shifted in the middle of the party and it took five of the strongest wolves to hold me down.

I shake my head to clear the memory away. Brian is still in my office waiting to be dismissed. "Have you ever seen these wolves? Do you know where to find them?" Brian shakes his head, "Your uncle always met with them in private and away from the pack house." I start to lose hope when Brian continues, "Although, my wife sold the old Warren house to someone from Boston. It could be them."

*Carolina's POV*

It's been a long morning of opening boxes and organizing stuff. Every time I opened a box, I'd be reminded of Jacob. There was the 8 slice toaster he'd insisted on buying, his favorite coffee mug, the pajama bottoms he wore the night before he was murdered. Tears cloud my eyes, it's been a long time since I last cried about his death. I blame the bond, it's making me emotional.

Jacob Thomas was a great husband and an even better father. His death devastated me but it damn near killed AJ. He adored his father and his death changed our son. AJ used to be always happy and upbeat but his light dimmed the night of the attack and it's never been the same. That's why I did not even hesitate when he asked me to move to Starlight.  I'm hoping Elena will bring some happiness back into his life.

I'm putting away the last of the kitchen utensils when Maya perks up. 'Mate.' Well, that took long enough. I sniff the air and close my eyes to secretly enjoy Logan's scent. The scent of the beach and rain permeate my senses. Maya is enthralled by it and, for a second, so am I.

The doorbell pulls me out of my stupor, thank God for small favors. I look at my reflection on the refrigerator's stainless steel surface. I'm wearing cut off shorts and one of Jacob's old shirts. My curls are in a messy bun with some loose strands framing my sweaty face. My eyes are red and puffy from all the crying I did this morning...and last night. I'm a complete mess. Good.

*Logan's POV*

Mia's scent hits me as soon as the house comes into view. Raegor urges me to get out of the car, run in there and claim her. The desire to mark her makes it almost impossible to think coherently. 'Patience, Raegor. We're going to get our girl back, I promise, but she won't appreciate it if we jump on her and hump her leg like a mangy mutt.'  This seems to get Raegor under control long enough for me to ring the doorbell like a civilized person.

My newfound control is put to the test when she opens the door. Oh my goddess, have mercy on my soul! She looks sexy as all hell, standing there barefoot in shorts, a shirt and no bra. Then I look at her eyes and my arousal dies down. She's been crying and I want to kill whoever made my mate cry.

"Are you going to come in or did you just want to stand in my doorway all day?" She says as she motions for me to come in. This house is beautiful and it smells of her and the young wolf from yesterday. There's a family portrait on the wall and Raegor growls when he sees the man in the picture kissing Mia while she's holding a baby in her arms.

"Tell your wolf to stand down. The man in that picture is my late husband and you WILL show him some respect." She says using her Luna voice as she sits on a chair and gestures for me to sit on the couch across from her. I feel guilty for being jealous but I can't help it. I force myself to face her and apologize for my rudeness.

"We need to talk." I say and she cringes. "Nothing good ever happens to me whenever you say those words, but you're right. I was even going to go to the pack house today. My son, AJ, and I want to join your pack. Will you allow it?" she says. "Well, you are already part of the pack, you're their future Luna, and your son is also welcome." I reply. She gets up and walks to the kitchen, "I already told you that I will not complete the mating ritual with you."

Is she running away from me? I follow a few steps behind her. "Yeah, yeah, I heard you. So, you're joining the pack, does that mean you're staying?" Raegor jumps for joy when she nods her head. She grabs two bottles of water from the fridge, hands me one and drinks from the other. I stare at her while she drinks her water, like a moron.

She notices and moves a few steps away from me. "You wanted to talk, so talk." I take a step closer to her. "You were human, how…" I start. "How am I a werewolf now? Oh, it's simple, really. Have you ever heard of a dormant wolf?" she answers like it's the most common thing in the world. "Holy shit, Mia! I've never heard of a dormant wolf awakening. You must be seriously powerful."

I didn't notice when I moved but I must have. One second I'm three feet away from her and the next I'm so close to her I can feel her heartbeat. I can feel the invisible force of the bond pulling us closer.
I yearn to feel her lips on mine once again, to feel her touch on my skin. I can tell she needs it just as much. I start lowering my head toward hers when her phone goes off.

*Carolina's POV*

I've never loved my phone more than I do today. I pride myself from being strong and in control yet I almost caved to this stupid bond. It was my mother asking me to come over for lunch. Getting rid of Logan wasn't easy. I had to promise to meet him tonight for dinner. I agreed, but only if he let me choose the place. I knew exactly where to meet him.

I'm getting ready for my dinner plans, when AJ walks into my room. "So, he showed up." He was obviously able to smell Logan downstairs. "We knew he would. Honestly, I was surprised he didn't show up sooner." AJ eyes me curiously, "How did it go?" "We didn't talk for long. Your abuela interrupted us. I'm actually going to meet him for dinner tonight, want to join?" His green eyes shine with anger, "You're going out with him? Mom, did you forget how he treated you?"

I've never kept any secrets from AJ, neither did Jacob. He knows both of our stories, we wanted him to learn from the mistakes we each had made. "I don't like the tone of your voice. Besides, you should know better. I'm taking him to Archie's." AJ laughs, "That should be interesting. I'm going to stay here, though. Tryouts are tomorrow and I want to go to bed early."  AJ loves basketball, just like his father.
