*Logan's POV*

"I tried! I really tried! I came back home looking for you, but you were gone. Nobody would tell me where you were, so I left you a letter with your mom telling you everything. Two weeks later I got this letter from you."

Mia takes a folded piece of paper from her wallet and hands it to me. It reads,

-Never come looking for me again. I will not ruin my life for a stupid mistake. Do yourself a favor and use this money to get rid of it. I don't care either way.-

I look at the perfect imitation of my handwriting and I want to kill whoever wrote this. I'm also outraged that Mia would believe I wrote this. "I didn't write this. You should have known that I would never say this!" She looks offended as she says "You, yourself, told me that having sex with me was a mistake. So, yes, I believed it." Fury at whomever did this to us makes me lash out at Mia.

"You should have tried harder!  Pushed until you were face to face with me." She looks at me with so much pain in her eyes that my wolf reprimands me for hurting our mate. "Try harder? I was 18, pregnant AND a fucking werefolf! If it wasn't for Jacob, I would have gone insane. I couldn't sleep, eat or function. He convinced me to come to Starlight again, this time with him by my side. We came to talk to your Alpha, I showed him your letter and he was so disappointed in you. He always wanted a son and here you were rejecting yours."

"So that's why he didn't let me be Alpha until he died. But it wasn't my letter, I swear on my honor as an Alpha." "I believe you, but that doesn't change all these years of hatred and hurt."

She looks broken so I pull her to me. "My love, if I had known that you were going to have my baby, nothing could have kept me away from you. We could have been together. We could have been a family." She must believe me because she pulls my head to hers and kisses me. I can feel the mate bond getting stronger, almost irresistible.

Life hasn't been fair to my beautiful mate, but I'll spend the rest of my life trying to make up for it. I have a family. Mine. I love this woman and I already love my son.

"Ugh, I knew this would happen. Can you please step away from my mom?" My son is standing by the stairs with a look of disdain. I let go of Mia and just stare at my pup. I must have been blind not to notice how much he looks like me at his age. "Son…" the word escapes my lips, barely a whisper. He stiffens, "You played my mom and then you abandoned her. Now you say a baby would've made a difference?"

"You told him about us?" I ask turning to Mia. "Jacob didn't believe in secrets. He made sure AJ knew about you." "Yes, I know everything and I've been listening to your little heart to heart from my room. I still think you don't deserve her as a mate. If it hadn't been for my father, who knows where we'd be. So if you were expecting a heartfelt reunion, you are shit out of luck."

I don't get a chance to answer before Mia grabs my hand and whispers "Rogues!"

She's right. Damn it! They're close, too close. There's no time to escape, we'll have to fight. I will shred them to pieces before I let them touch my family. Mia looks at our son and she says. "AJ, it's them, the ones that got away." My son growls, these must be the rogues that attacked the Boston Pack years ago. Why are they here?

I call my beta and inform him of the situation. Our best fighters are on their way. I fear they won't make it in time.
