FLETCHER

Like a man on a mission, I storm out of the bar and follow Cade. I don’t care who gets in my way I’m pushing and shoving them out, but when I open the door and see Parker on the ground holding Eden in his arms my heart stops in my chest and my feet can’t seem to move.

“Fletch! Dude, get over here,” Parker yells from the ground.

“What happened?” My feet are cemented in place but Cade shoves my shoulder and it brings me out of my trance and I run over to Eden and try and shake her awake. “Eden, Eden baby wake up.” Her eyes were still shut no matter how much shaking I did. “What happened?” I ask Parker again.

“I don’t know exactly. I was coming out of the kitchen and I saw the back door close and I was wondering who was going out that way. I opened the door and he was that Crawley guy and he was holding Eden in his arms.”

“He was doing what? Fucking Crawley. Where is he?” I look around and Parker grabs my shoulder to get my attention again. I heard the sirens of the police and ambulance coming and I just put my attention back on Eden. “I’m so sorry, babe. Please wake up for me.”

“I didn’t know what to do so I yelled at him, when he didn’t stop I hit him from behind, but he dropped her on the ground. I’m so sorry, Fletch. If something happens to her…”

“Shut the fuck up, Parker. This isn’t your fault. In fact, you might have saved her life.” I look up at my other little brother, “Cade, get on the fucking cameras, find out what happened.”

He runs his hand through his hair, scared in his own right, “I will. I just want to make sure she’s okay first.”

“She’s passed the hell out and none of us can really do anything so just go check the fucking cameras.” My anger might have been misguided a bit, but the woman I love was lying unconscious in my arms and I needed answers.

“Oh my god, what happened?” Mel and Adam run out of the bar. She tries to get closer to us, but Adam holds her back. Damon is right behind the two of them, worry on his face as well.

“Somebody needs to find Crawley,” I yelled to nobody in particular.

“I don’t know where he went. Once he hit the ground I tried to help Eden. His truck is still here so he couldn’t have gotten far. I’m sorry, Fletch.”

Damon leans down and rests his hand on my shoulder, “The police will find him, Fletch. Parker was a witness and the camera had to at least catch him out here.”

Everything goes so quickly once the police and ambulance show up. The EMTs immediately start to work on Eden. They ask all these questions like how much she had to drink and if she did any drugs. I was getting pissed because they were treating her like some addict or something but that wasn’t her. They were also starting IVs and attaching all these things to her. I wanted to hold her in my arms, but they would let me.

“How much did you say she had to drink tonight?” One of them asked again.

“She only had like three glasses of wine, right Adam?”

“I think maybe four, but not enough for this. I’m sure of it. She was fine and dancing with Carly. Shit, where is Carly?”

“You and Mel go inside to find Carly. Make sure she gets home. Cade!” I yell, looking for my brother again.

“I know, I know, on the cameras.”

One of the officers follows Cade inside and they get Eden onto a stretcher and put her into the back of the ambulance.
