“I still can’t believe you’re engaged,” Damon mentioned while we were taking a short break from moving tables. “Mom hasn’t stopped talking about it and I’m pretty sure that she’s going to require the rest of us to get hitched soon too.”

I smile, thinking about my woman, “It’s glorious, Damon. I’m telling you. What happened to that gal you were seeing in Denver?”

“I shouldn’t have told you about her,” He shakes his head. “I thought things were getting serious, but I guess I was wrong.”

“Really? What happened?”

He shrugs, “Nothing much, maybe that was the problem. She said she was just looking to have a little fun and she thought things were getting a bit too serious.”

“So she wanted the goods, but she didn’t want to date?”

“Pretty much. I’m all for having a good friend with benefits, but I’m at the point in my life where I wouldn’t mind having something consistent, long-term, maybe even turn into something more serious.”

I slap him on his shoulder, “Hot damn, my big brother is finally growing up.”

“Don’t let it go to your head,” he snickers. “It is just an idea, now I have to actually find the woman that would dare put up with me.”

“That’s going to be impossible.”

“Fucker,” he shoved me away. “Okay, I’m ready for a break.”

“Me too, when are the flooring guys going to be here?”

Damon takes a look at his phone, “Like an hour.”

“Alright, yeah I’m totally taking a break.”

Damon and I were spending the morning working over at the reception hall. We had everything torn down to the studs and the concrete floor. We were doing things here and there that we could take care of to keep costs down a little bit, but we knew we had to hire out a lot of the actual construction work.

We spent the last week painting the place a very light gray that Eden picked out. She said it was the perfect shade because it wasn’t white, but it could also be a good background for any color decoration that the person renting it would want. As a family, we all spent countless hours there. Even Alice and Carl chipped in when they had the time. It was becoming a full family business.

Damon and I were doing touch-ups this morning before the guys come in to put in the flooring. We also needed to move the tables that came with the place so they could have full access. Everything was coming along nicely. We had a timeline of about a month before we would be open for business. Eden was going to be planning an open house event to show the place off to the community.

Once we got the flooring guys working, Damon headed home since he was taking the late shift at the bar and I headed over to get everything open for the lunch crowd. To my surprise, Jolie was already there, setting some tables and wrapping up silverware. “Jolie, hey. I didn’t expect you for another hour.”

“I had some time and thought I’d help get things ready,” she didn’t even look up from the table.

“I’m never going to fight somebody coming in early.”

“I was hoping you’d say that,” she graced me with the sweetest smile. “How’s the flooring coming along?”

“They just started a bit ago. They have a full crew though, so it shouldn’t take too long.”
