FLETCHER
I finish getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner, making sure I left myself plenty of time to pick up Eden and Joey and bring them to my mom and dad’s place. Alice and Carl said they’d bring them since we’re all going to the same place, but there is something I love about driving them there to our first Thanksgiving together, like a family.
I had sent her a few text messages this morning, but she had yet to answer any of them. Last night she had gone to bed super late after spending the night at Toni’s. She was so drunk when she was texting me, but I definitely read the conversation back a few times. My prime and proper girl can get dirty and I love it.
Worried that she may have overslept, I pick up the phone to call her instead of relying on text messages, “Hello?” She picked up after a few rings.
“Hmm, you sound groggy. Are you just waking up?”
“What time is it?”
“Almost 11.”
“In the morning? Fuck!”
I laugh, “You ARE still sleeping, aren’t you?”
“Dammit, why didn’t you call me sooner?”
“I’ve been texting all morning, beautiful.” I chuckle, “Do you need me to come to get you at Toni’s?”
“No, I’ll drive home and get ready quickly. Can you bring me some coffee?”
“Of course babe. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
I end the call and laugh some more. Of course, she is running late. Of course, she is totally hungover. I knew those girls getting together would be nothing but trouble, but Toni is like a sister to me, and she and Eden are getting just as close. Jolie seems to mesh well in with them too, even though she’s a little younger.
I brew a cup of coffee and pour it into a travel mug just for her and get into my truck. When I pull up to the house I see that her car is out front so I know she’s at least home. Carl is right there to open the door for me and give my hand a good shake. “She’s in the shower. Not sure she’s going to have much of an appetite today. Boy, she looked a little pale,” he said with a smirk.
“I can only imagine what trouble those girls got into last night.”
“Would you like anything while you wait?”
I shake my head, “Nah, I’m good. Is Joey ready?”
“Alice is helping him right now. Come on, take a seat.”
“Thanks, Carl.” We sit down around the kitchen table and Carl offers me a blueberry muffin. I decline the coffee but do take a glass of grape juice.
“How are things at the bar?”
“Doing good. We were able to hire a new person last month, so that was huge. Damon and Cade have this crazy idea that I think might be my fault.”
“What is it?”
“You know the building next to us?”
“The old furniture store?”
I nod, “It’s been quite a few things, but yeah it’s been empty for a while. The guys are thinking about buying it.”
“Oh wow. Does that mean expanding the bar?”
“Yes and no. A while back Damon and I kind of talked about how it would be nice to have a hall that could be rented out for parties, nice dinners, formal events, etc. I hadn’t thought much of it since then.”
