EDEN
“Alright, Joseph. I’m going to be heading into town to visit Fletcher for a bit, but I’ll be back tonight. If you need anything, Grandma and Carl are downstairs.”
“Will you tell Fletch I said hi?”
“Of course baby. I love you.”
“I love you too, Mommy.” I tuck the blankets up under his chin and kiss him on the forehead. I make sure that all his favorite stuffed animals are in the right place and turn off the light and softly close the door.
“Are you heading out now?” My mom asks once I stop by the family room where she’s watching TV with Carl.
“Yeah. I won’t be gone long. He just wanted to talk about something. He’s working so I’ll just be there for a bit.”
“Sounds good. Drive safe, the snow is starting to fall.”
“Will do, mom. Love you.”
“Love you too, sweetheart.”
“Bye, Carl.”
“Bye, Eden. Drive safely.”
I grab my heavy coat and make my way out to my car. After about five minutes of trying to warm up my car, I start my drive into town. Mom is right, the snow is really starting to come down. I’ve driven in it a few times, but it is still new for me.
The bar is packed, even this time at night with it snowing, but I park in the back, I guess you could call it a perk of sleeping with one of the owners. The back door is unlocked and I head straight to the bar where I see Fletcher and Jolie working the bar. I sit at the end and catch his eye right away. “Hey, there beautiful woman.”
“Hi, handsome man. You were right, you were the sexy man behind the bar.”
“See I wouldn’t lie to you.” He leans over the bar and kisses me. “Want anything?”
“Nah, I’m good with just water.”
“What about something to eat? Some onion rings?”
“Okay, I’ll take an order of onion rings. Are you going to tell me why I’m here?”
“Yeah, let’s get you those rings and then I’ll go take a lunch and we can talk. I’ll be right back.”
I get one more kiss after he slides the glass of water to me and then he goes back to work serving customers on the other end of the bar. When he leaves, Jolie ventures down in my direction to say hi.
“Hey, what are you doing here?”
“Fletcher wanted to talk about something so I put Joseph to bed and came over. Any idea what he wants to talk about?”
“Not a clue,” she shrugs.
“Hey, I have a question for you.”
“For me? What’s up?”
I look around to make sure there aren’t any Mason brothers nearby, “Are you into Parker?”
She has a slight tinge of rose covering her cheeks and gives me a slight smile. “Maybe? Is that an okay answer?”
“Of course. Feelings aren’t always easy to figure out. What’s going on?”
She shrugs, “He’s cute and he’s really nice, but he’s technically my boss, so there is that.”
“Good point. Parker’s a great guy. Just saying. Practically saved my life.”
“I heard about that. Well, if anything happens, you and Toni will be the first to know. You’re basically my only two friends here.”
