EDEN
My mom was off for the day and she volunteered to come over to the house and watch Joey, Abram, and Deliliah so Carly and I could run some errands this morning. Before heading back, we stopped at the little coffee shop and cafe that was just on the outskirts of town. After putting in our order, we took our teas to the corner table and waited for our food.
“I’d say today was a success!” Carly said with equal parts excitement and exhaustion.
“No kidding. Thank you again for coming with me. I wanted to look at the different fabrics and feel them. You just can’t do that online.”
“It was a lot of fun,” she agreed. “I was serious when I said to let me know if you need help with anything. I may not be super creative, but I can follow directions really well.”
One of the errands that I was running today was in search of a vendor for party items. The place I had found the best reviews for was about an hour's drive away. This wasn’t that bad for our rural area of Colorado, but I didn’t want to go alone. The reception hall was coming along and it was time to start purchasing items. The shopping part was exciting!
We had two options, buy a bunch of stuff that our clients could use or find a really good rental company that would provide more options. We decided to purchase tables, chairs, and formal dinnerware, but rent when it came to linens. I wanted to look at the different options and even purchase some samples to show guests, hence the trip this morning.
Our food arrives, but the meals weren’t too large or heavy. This cafe makes the cutest little tea sandwiches and you can get them on a sharing platter for lunches. I make a mental note to contact them about their catering potential. I could see this being a hit for bridal parties.
“So, did you register Joey for kindergarten yet?”
“Oh, don’t remind me! I almost cried. Did you cry?”
Carly laughs, “I may have shed a few tears. I had to do it when Nathan was at work so he didn’t laugh at me.”
“I can’t believe our babies are going to school.”
“At least they’ll have each other. I know Joey still doesn’t know a lot of other kids. Abram will for sure introduce him. He’s known a lot of these kids his entire life.”
“I’m glad your son is a social butterfly. Although I have noticed a huge change in Joey since moving here.” Back in California, Joey didn’t interact with many kids his age. Caleb rarely let me take him places like the park and he would balk at the idea of daycare. The only option so socialization would be specific families he trusted and those women were all annoying as hell so I never wanted to set up play dates with them. I can only imagine how he’d be when it came to schooling. If he only knew Caleb would be attending a public school. That wasn’t an issue though, we haven’t heard a peep from Caleb since New Year’s.
“I know we don’t spend that much time together anymore, but I’ve noticed his changes too! When we were at the park last week I would believe how confident he was playing with the kids there. Getting him out of that environment was so good for him.”
“I’m glad others are seeing it too. Sometimes I’m worried I’m the only one noticing his changes like I’m seeing something that isn’t really there.”
“Oh no, it is very clear,” she reassures me. “He’s going to have no problem in school. Plus, aren’t you going to be doing t-ball too? He’ll meet some other kids that way.”
“Yes! Don’t let me forget, I have the form filled out in the car, I was going to drop it off today.”
“We can stop by on the way back to your place. The office is inside the library.”
