"Happy Birthday hyung!" The room was filled with cheers and yells as all of his friends and his mom jumped out from behind couches and walls.

Hongjoong stood there, frozen in place, not able to move a finger. Mingi soon came out of the kitchen, holding a candle-lit birthday cake. Hongjoong covered his gaping mouth in shock. All of his friends and his mom circled around him and Mingi brought the cake closer to him. "Happy birthday to you," Mingi began singing and everyone soon joined in. Hongjoong couldn't hold back the tears any longer. He looked over at Seonghwa who was still standing behind him. Seonghwa noticed and smiled warmly at him. 'Had he known this whole time?' Hongjoong thought.

He was smiling so widely, he could feel his cheeks beginning to hurt. He folding his hands, intertwining his fingers together and made a wish. He opened his eyes and blew out the candles. Cheers filled the room. Hongjoong was so happy he had these amazing friends.

Almost an hour went past. They were all eating cake and blasting music on the TV. Hongjoong's mother had gone to sleep, leaving the eight boys alone in the living room.

Hongjoong was sitting against the fence on the back porch. He leaned his head back, taking in a deep breath, letting the sound of the loud music drown out. His thoughts began zoning out as he stared up at the starry night. He heard a loud thump next to him. He looked over his shoulder and saw Seonghwa had sat down next to him, their shoulders just brushing. He held his knees to chest as he looked up at the sky, a small smile present.

It might've been his own thought, but Hongjoong swore that he'd seen Seonghwa smile these last few days than he ever had in his five years of liking him since middle school.

"Thank you. For today." Hongjoong smiled. Seongwha turned to look at Hongjoong, mirroring his expression. "This was the first time I've had a big surprise like this." Hongjoong returned his gaze to the sky, watching the stars twinkle in the darkness.

"You've been friends with Mingi and Jongho for over five years. You guys haven't done anything like this before?" Seonghwa asked, still looking at Hongjoong.

Hongjoong was shocked. How did he know so much? "I guess we never thought about it before. We would always just go out somewhere but nothing special." Hongjoong shrugged. He turned back to look at Seonghwa's beautiful hazel eyes and smiled warmly. "Thank you. I had an amazing day."

Seonghwa then reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small box. He handed it to Hongjoong as he said, "happy birthday." Hongjoong took the box and blushed as his finger's brushed against Seonghwa's hand. He opened the box and inside was a beautiful diamond necklace. "Thank you. I love it." Hongjoong said warmly as he put the necklace on.

Seongwha let out a small laugh. "It looks great on you." He said before turning his gaze back to the sky and Hongjoong did the same. Hongjoong let out a sigh and leaned his head on the wall. "It's funny." Hongjoong started, " I never thought I would be celebrating my birthday in my home with you." He fiddled with the box, rubbing his thumb on the velvet material. "I never thought I would have the guts to say a word to you, let alone be your friend." Hongjoong chuckled as he looked down at his hands fiddling with the box.

Seonghwa turned to look at Hongjoong once again, eyes expressing shock. "Am I that scary that you never wanted to speak to me?" He asked dramatically, putting his hand over his heart. Hongjoong then stood up, straightening his sweater and dusting his jeans. "Let's go inside and finish this party. It's time I kick you guys out of my house." Hongjoong said with a chuckle and lead the boy inside the house. Everyone said their goodbyes and left.

Hongjoong cleaned up the place before heading to his room, before remembering the gift Mingi and Jongho had gotten him. He took the bag upstairs and into his room, shutting the door behind him. He looked into the bag and found a crystal bracelet and a letter. The letter read, "hi hyung. It's Mingi and Jongho, you're favourite dongsaengs :) ! This bracelet is from a set of three, we each will keep one forever. Happy birthday hyung. We love you! Ps: thank you for putting up with our shit for five years."

Hongjoong put on the bracelet, turning it around in the light to see it better. He smiled to himself as he got ready for bed and fell asleep in the comfort of his covers.
