Will Troy sing the duet alone?

Zeke and Jason showed up at the auditorium when Troy was taking a break.

They called out to their captain and Troy turned around to face them.

Troy says, "Listen guys about yesterday, I'm really sorry for blowing up like that."

Zeke replies, "No man we're sorry for even doing what we did. I can understand that you blew up because you felt betrayed."

Jason adds, "Yeah man it's cool."

Troy says, "I didn't just blow up because I felt betrayed actually"

Zeke looks confused and asks, "What do you mean?"

Troy replies, "This little stunt cost me my friendship with Gabriella. That's actually why I was so mad."

Jason says, "But why? I mean you just met her."

Kelsi teases, "Because Troy is in love with Gabriella"

Troy shoots Kelsi an unimpressed look and replies, "Because she's the first girl in a long time who hasn't cared about my popularity. She liked me for me and not my position on the basketball team."

Zeke says, "But I thought that all the girls in school like you."

Troy shakes his head and replies, "They like the 'Playmaker' or the 'Wildcat Captain' not me. Why do you think I say no every time some girl asks me out? I went on a date or two, but those girls never showed an interest in trying to know me. All those girls are superficial, but the cheerleaders are the worst. That's why I dislike them so much."

Jason says, "I didn't know it was so difficult for you man. I mean Chad always made it seem like it was amazing, but we never thought about it like that."

Troy shrugs his shoulders and replies, "Chad actually likes all the attention. I don't want all this popularity. I'd rather be liked for who I am rather than what I can do."

Zeke says, "So now we know that you like to sing. How exactly are you going to do the callbacks? It's scheduled on the day before the game."

Troy replies, "Well I think dad is coming around, so he'll let me go. I think I'll need some time to relax before the big game."

Zeke says, "You deserve it after all the efforts you put into practising. We'll try to handle the others so that they don't annoy you too much."

Jason nods in agreement.

Troy smiles and replies, "Thanks guys"

The next few days go on as usual. Zeke and Jason do their best to help Troy by keeping the rest of the team off his back.

Coach Bolton also helps out by claiming that Troy was practising some new moves in private to best the West High Knights.

Coach Bolton says, "I told him to practise at home so that the Knights don't see anything. You guys know that some of their players come to try and see our plans so that's why Troy is working separately at home. This way the Knights might also think that Troy may not be playing so it'll be a nice surprise for them."
