So this story starts from when Gabriella tells Troy that she doesn't want to do the callbacks.
PS: If you need to recollect the scene I have uploaded it.
The video doesn't belong to me but it will help understand which scene I'm talking about.

Troy had just couldn't figure out why Gabriella refused to listen to him.
He was at his wits end trying to find out why Gabriella didn't want to do the callbacks anymore.
He also couldn't understand why she thought that he didn't actually want to do the call-backs.
Troy was hurt but he could also see that Gabriella was hurting too.
'If this was hurting her as well then why was she even saying it?' Troy thought to himself.
He figured that he should probably go and inform Kelsi about Gabriella's decision.
He thought that maybe Kelsi could help him figure out this mystery.

Some people might wonder why a drama club member like Kelsi would even help a jock like Troy.
What people in school didn't know was that Troy and Kelsi were actually cousins.
Troy never revealed it to anyone to keep Kelsi safe. Even Chad, who was Troy's best friend, didn't know about Kelsi.
Being the coach's son, Troy often hung out with the basketball players of East High since before he even went to school there. He had heard the players complain about some girls going after their brothers and sisters to try to get to them.
Everything was about clichés and popularity, so everyone wanted to hang out around the most popular groups of people.
Being the star player of the East High Wildcats meant that everyone wanted to try and be your friend.
Troy dealt with fake friends every day and after hearing what happened with the siblings of star players, he refused to let Kelsi suffer.
He explained everything to Kelsi and she agreed wholeheartedly because she didn't like big crowds.
After meeting Sharpay though, Kelsi thanked Troy profusely for not telling anyone that they were related.
Apparently Sharpay had a weird obsession with Troy because he was the most popular boy in school.
Thanks to Kelsi's warning, Troy would try his best to avoid East High's Ice Princess.

Troy and Kelsi had been quite close since they were kids.
Kelsi was Troy's confidant and she knew all about how much Troy hated his popularity.
She had been the only one apart from his mother who knew that Troy liked to sing.
Kelsi was also the first one Troy talked about Gabriella after they met on New Year's Eve.
