As soon as the door closed, Qiu Ling turned to look at Xin Lan. "Well, what about you? Sounded like there was something big coming up for you or was that just Jinde trying to give himself an alibi?"
Xin Lan looked back at Qiu Ling and then glanced at the other three people in the room. Well, one was his lover's reincarnation, the other his lover's uncle, and then that uncle's son. Clearly, this was somewhat of a family meeting so he was in the way.
While he usually wouldn't give a shit about that and might use the opportunity to make trouble for Qiu Ling, he also didn't care about staying so he just walked over to the door. "Don't bother trying to say anything nice. I'm very much aware that you just want me gone. It's alright, really. I don't care much for your company either." With that, he was out of the door just as fast as Li Yin had been.
Qiu Ling gave a hum and then turned to look at Qiang Yan and Bai Mu, his gaze lingering on the latter. "Thank you."
Bai Mu sat down at the other side of the table, shaking his head. "Don't bother. Not even mentioning that the two of us are more or less related, you've also helped me a lot in the past. Without your assistance, I wouldn't be with Nie Huang now. And I would be missing something in my life if I wasn't.
"It was you who broke me out of the demon-hunting sect's prison despite the danger it meant for you, who helped us reconnect, allowed her to become immortal, and even gave us a place to live. Spending some hours watching over you is really the least you can ask of me. Not to mention that you pretty much woke up as soon as I came over. I'm not doing a very good job as a babysitter."
Qiu Ling made a sound in his throat, thinking of the couple next door. "You should slowly up your skills then. Soon enough, I'm afraid we might need it." Then again, he wasn't even sure how he himself would fare, and as the child's older sibling, he'd be much more involved than a ... well, whatever his cousin-in-law would be to his sibling.
Bai Mu wasn't quite sure what he meant and could only questioningly raise his brows, finally glancing at his father to figure out what was going on.
Qiang Yan felt awkward but he still sat down at the table as well and motioned over to the wall to the next room. "Those two, how far off is getting that child?"
Qiu Ling gave a hum, not quite sure what to say. "Well, if I'm still up to date, not too far. These days, they've been busy with some things, including helping me and something for Xin Lan, apparently. I guess as soon as that is done, they would work on that though.
"And, well, seeing as I'm better now, I guess that it will be sooner rather than later. In fact, if what Jinde said is true and this matter with Xin Lan isn't supposed to take much time, then I wouldn't be surprised if they go out and get everything ready in just a week's time or something." While that was the plan, who knew if it would hold up with everything else that was happening? Well, their chances were still good.
Speaking of risks though ... "That friend of yours, the God of Justice, do you think he will make trouble? He was looking at Jinde a little funny."
Qiang Yan lowered his gaze and finally shook his head. "Honestly? I'm not sure. Li Yin has always been a stickler for rules, even more so after his last trial. I'm not quite sure whether he'd be willing to keep this silent. But then, the laws of the Nine Heavens don't apply to the dragon realm and its people. A person faking their death and disappearing over in the dragon realm should be none of his concern. Even if it was a problem according to your laws, I don't think it should cause any problems."
Qiu Ling nodded slowly and then wondered if it could indeed cause problems on their side if this came out. Actually, he didn't think so. Anyway, Jinde had been declared dead back then, he also would not have been in any shape to actually rule. Not to mention that Jinde himself had chosen him as his successor. And knowing Jinde, he had probably even had something written down in accordance with the law to make this iron-tight. After all, he had planned this whole 'faking his death' scenario. So, they should be on the safe side. The only problem would be Jin Ling.
Qiu Ling tapped the top of the table, his brows faintly furrowing. "I honestly haven't been paying attention to what is going on outside these days but ... do you have any news from the demon realm?"
Qiang Yan rubbed his face, able to figure out what he was getting at in a heartbeat. "Honestly, it's not looking good. At first, there was a big push against demon king Jin Ling, but he managed to make a comeback, causing things to become pretty even. He managed to pull some important people onto his side but you know how the demons are: If they ally, it won't last for long. So the longer their stalemate lasts, the worse it gets.
"Right now, it's not wrong to say that there is a civil war happening in the demon realm. The mood is volatile, so it can go either way every single day. Personally, my bet wouldn't be on demon king Jin Ling. There are too many who have long been dissatisfied with his rule. They want war and he won't give that to them. Yong Hai will."
Qiu Ling slowly nodded, but he wasn't quite sure what to say about this. As much as he disliked Jin Ling, he still wouldn't want him to lose his throne. That ... Oh well, it wasn't that he liked him any better than the other guy, or that he pitied him, it was simply a matter of convenience.
With Jin Ling, he knew what to expect, he knew how to deal with him, even knew that he didn't need to feel that troubled. With him, there could be peace, even if it was a volatile one. That was the most they had ever managed to achieve with the demons. If that Yong Hai managed to make it to the top, things would get a lot worse. While he was ready to face that, he didn't want to do that to his people.
Qiu Ling slowly narrowed his eyes, feeling that now that he wasn't in the process of losing his mind anymore, it might be time to make sure that he stabilized this fragile peace. After all, he still wanted to get married to his lover. Also, whenever they figured out what to do about the situation with Jing Yi still being here as Jing He's reincarnation, he wanted to follow that through in peace, not while having to worry about the demons. And maybe, there was actually a way to make sure of this.
