Chapter 6

I started chewing my finger nails as I walked home from school. Daniel was walking right beside me, quiet as usual. There was a strong force between us; silence. Whenever I tried to say something, my body would not let me. I stopped walking for a second, just to get his attention. I looked up at him and saw that he was dragging his fingers along a scar on his arm.
"Daniel...we need to talk about this."
"No we don't", he shook his head and crossed his arms.
"Why?" I choked out.
"I'm trying to keep you safe! But clearly, you want to stick your nose in everything and get hurt! Do you have a death wish?" He yelled out, spitting.
I could feel bile building up in my throat.
"You! You and your mood swings! They will be the death of me." I yelled back, tears forming around my eyes.
He could see that I was starting to cry and he wrapped his arms around me. I was so surprised that a gasp escaped my mouth. I could feel all the problems leaving. Turning into dust under the carpet. His body gave off this warm heat and I could feel his heartbeat. My breathes got slower and slower by the second.
"I'm sorry Jesse, I'm trying to protect you from getting hurt and instead I'm the one who is hurting you. I better go." He let go and started leaving. Before he got away too far, I grabbed his arm and his face whipped around. His green eyes glowing brighter than ever.
"You leaving, will only hurt me more. Daniel you make me happy...please. Just stay." I rubbed his arm with my thumb and he sighed.
"I need to take you somewhere. I need to repay you. Here is 50 dollars. Buy yourself a pretty dress and have a spa day. I'll meet you at your house at 7."
A large grin spread across my face and I wrapped my arms around his neck. I rubbed my face into his chest, thanking him one million times.
"Anything for you Jesse." The way he said my name gave me chills, his voice slightly deep.
"I'll text you, okay?" He smiled and reached for my hand, planting a light kiss on top of it. Sparks ran through my hand and I started blushing.
We went our separate ways, and all I could think about was...how special he is to me.
