Lienne Zhou waited impatiently at her windowsill, her face was so close to the window that her breath fogged up the glass. She stared at the dull pavement outside her house.

Soon... they would come - like they said.

She clutched at the hems of her dress with exasperation, it was so boring to wait though. It was always her waiting. They never waited for her.

Then she heard a loud laughter outside her house, she pressed her face against the window and saw them.

She rushed out of the room and breezed down the flight of stairs, soon she was opening the door.

"Hi, Lienne," she was greeted by three smiling boys at her doorstep.

She pouted, trying to be mad with them, "You guys were so slow."

Karry laughed, "We were not, you were just impatient."

"I wouldn't be surprised if she peed her pants while waiting, since we're that exciting," Roy teased -- he was the most childish one of the three boys, but what do you expect from a nine-year-old?

"Don't make fun of her, geez..." Jackson said as the two other boys laughed,

"So, let's go outside and play already." Karry said, walking away from the house already.

Roy began to follow him, Jackson smiled and shadowed Roy's movements,

"H-hey, wait a second!" Lienne said, distressed. She turned around and yelled into her empty hallway, "Mama! I'm going out now!"

"Okay! Take care of yourself!" Came the faint reply.

She rushed out of the doorway and put her jacket on in a rush, they could've waited, she thought, but it was always like this -- she was the one getting left behind.

They moved too fast for her, she never could catch up. One day, she always thought, she wouldn't be able to catch up and they would leave her forever. That's why she was always so determined to learn the things they did and do the things they did.

"Today, we'll play castle!" Karry announced, waving the stick he found in the park earlier.

"Can't we play House? We never do," Lienne asked, but as usual, her suggestions weren't counted.

"I'll be the King." Karry said with a tinge of arrogance,

"I'll be the clerk," Jackson smiled,

Karry and Roy looked at him with confused frowns on their faces, "What the heck is that?" Roy asked,

Jackson frowned also, "I-I think they just write stuff,"

"Anyways, I'll be the Knight!" Roy said, doing a heroic pose, "I fight evil and stuff. I protect everyone from enemies, 'cause I'm strong," He sniffed,

"Me too!" Lienne said, "I want to fight and protect people too!"

"You can't do that," Karry said, on the verge of a laugh,
