Omg chapter XXVII though. Ok maybe choosing Roman Numerals was a bad idea after all.
Jackson idly fiddled with the straw of his strawberry milkshake, listening to Roy rant.
"So you took Lienne out on a date yesterday, huh?" He asked, slurping his iced chocolate loudly.
"Yeah." Jackson said in a monotonous way.
"So..?" Roy looked as if he were expecting something with his arms out like that.
Jackson looked up from his strawberry milkshake, "So... What?"
"So, what happened?!" Roy asked impatiently. The waiter looked at the two nervously, they were causing quite a racket in their restaurant.
Jackson hushed Roy, "Okay, if I remember you liked Lienne."
"That happened a long time ago, compadré." Roy winked, "Besides, I'm no longer interested. I've come to a conclusion that Lienne is more like a sister than a girlfriend to me."
Jackson snorted, "Are you sure you're not just crushing on Jakey-Jake, now?"
Roy raised a brow, "Jealous of our progressing friendship, Jackson?"
"As if," Jackson huffed, "I'm actually glad you're not in my care anymore."
"You secretly love me."
"Who are you to know my secrets."
Roy waved a dismissive hand, "We've known all our lives, Jackson, I'm pretty sure there's no secrets between brotherhood."
"Really?" Jackson drawled, "Remember that one time you kissed the girl I like on an expensive sofa while I was talking with my mom on the phone."
Roy immediately looked sheepish, "Ah, yes, but that was-"
"And then when I took her out on a date, my brothers - as you call us, failed to tell me that she had already kissed you."
"That was just... Once. Okay?" Roy seemed to conclude himself there, "And we were talking about details on your date."
Jackson turned up his nose, "What are you? A teenage girl? Why are you so interested in my date?"
Roy whined, "Aw, c'mon."
"You know what's funny." Jackson turned to Roy, "You've kissed her fully on the lips but you've never taken her on one date. Whereas, Karry and I, who have never kissed her, are working out asses off on ideas of dates."
Roy shrugged, "I guess I'm a straight-forward guy."
"Teach me your ways, O' sensei."
Roy put a thoughtful hand on his chin and began stroking, "Maybe I will... If you tell me the flippin' details about your date, grasshopper." Then Roy narrowed his eyes, "Why do you keep changing the subject?"
Jackson sighed, "It was a worth a try anyway." Then Jackson leaned in, "I'm not gonna repeat myself so don't interrupt me, it kinda' went like this..."
***
"Be my girlfriend."
Jackson didn't phrase it as a question.
Lienne paused for a while, seemed to think in disbelief and finally responded with, "Let me think for a while, okay?"
Jackson was struck with immediate rejection, but he regained his posture, she said 'let me think' not 'I will not be your girlfriend', Jackson.
