"econ class"
Monday came and they were all in econ class. Phil was dreading this class every day. He couldn't handle the captains all together but that morning he felt something was off.
Willa was not snickering at Clay and Clay wasn't annoying her. He frowned, it was eerie. "Risk and reward." He said as the students watched him place a mug in the middle of his desk.
"Can someone- Do any of you have a quarter?" he asked. Clay nodded, "I do here-" he cut himself off when something other than his hand flew out of his pocket.
He froze, it was as if time slowed down and there landing on the floor by his coach and teacher's feet is a condom. He gulped as his classmates leaned over to see what it was. The others snickered.
Phil picked it up and raised an eyebrow at his captain. "Alright I didn't know you'd want to be this personal." He joked and placed it back on his desk before grabbing the coin and walking back to the front.
Clay sunk to his desk and looked around. Willa glanced to him but immediately looked away. It made his heart drop and a frown appeared on his lips.
Phil started to explain what risk and reward was. "Without risk you would not get a reward. For example, if I don't risk throwing the coin to that cup I wouldn't reward myself with the information that I have..." he trailed as he shot the coin straight in the mug.
"That I have great aim." He said with a smile and turned to the class. He leaned on his table. "Now give me a situation that risk and reward can play in?" he asked.
The class stayed quiet as he raked his eyes over the students. Suddenly Niki raised her hand. "Yes Miss Angelus." He said. Niki stood up and hummed, "Situation, two people knowing each other since childhood and can't resort to anything but fighting." She said. Phil hummed glancing at Clay and Willa who squirmed on their seats.
"Elaborate." He said. Niki hummed and nodded, "One tired but the other doesn't want to lose the other one I guess but they just can't-" "Or just stubborn enough to be nice to each other." George cut her off.
Phil narrowed his eyes, there he realized that the feud that the two were doing was affecting their friend group. "Okay thank you may sit Miss Angelus. Risk taker? Anyone?" he asked.
Willa pursed her lips as Phil looked at her, "Miss Baker." He said. She sighed, "Risk try and be nice." She muttered. Phil hummed and nodded, "Possible setbacks?" he asked. "Misunderstandings." Clay said which made Willa hum. Phil nodded, "Other risk?" he asked.
"Offer help." She said blankly. "Set back?" he asked. "Hesitation leading to forgetfulness. Fear. Anxiety of losing something they were used to." Clay answered.
"Other risk-" "Apology. Let down your pride." Willa cut her father off. And before Phil could say anything, "Setback, stubbornness and familiarity." Clay said. Willa scoffed and shook her head and was about to say something when the bell rung. Everyone was frozen. It was as if they just intruded in a very personal conversation between the two captains.
Phil cleared his throat, "Possible reward of that, a great friendship." He said looking between the two. They both gulped and he sighed. "Off you guys go. Have a great lunch." He said and walked to his desk.
Clay walked to Willa but she grabbed her bag and dashed out of the room. He sighed and shook his head. He grabbed his own back and walked out the door.
The others were still there, still in shock. "Are they okay?" Phil asked the friends. Will sighed, "We don't know dad. Wils have been odd-" "So have Clay." Nick said.
George sighed, "The other night at the party, Willa told Clay that she was done with everything. The fighting the playing nice. I thought it was just like before when she said she was tired of him and they would just bounce back." He admitted.
Phil hummed and nodded, "Okay. Go on you guys can talk about this elsewhere I have a meeting with Principal Dan." He said and the friends walked out the classroom.
The father raked his head on possible answers. He pursed his lips and sighed. Standing up and walked to his good friend's office.
