"her magic"

Willa ran to the field, her hair swinging from her ponytail. She frowned when she saw the scoreboard. She reached the side where her cheers were.

"What's going on?" she asked. "Willa." The girls said. She looked at the field, looking for a particular number but she couldn't. "Willa!" people from behind her yelled. She turned and smiled when she saw the rest of her friends.

She ran up to the stands and handed them tubs of brownies. "Traditional Championship Brownies? Yes!" Nick yelled as he nudged Jack to grab them because his other hand was in a sling.

"You came." Will said with a smile. She shrugged, "I got some pep talk." She said as she glanced at Kristen who was smiling at her. Will nodded, "I think the team needs some cheering up." Jimmy said motioning to the field.

A time out was called and when she looked at the team she saw her father stressing. "Go. Do your magic." Charlie said making her chuckle.

Willa ran back to her cheers, "So you guys need to do the cheer-" "We? What about you?" Maddy asked. The captain looked at Niki who sent her an unsure look. "Wils-"

"I'm gonna do my magic." She said. Niki frowned when she started to walk to the football team, "I don't think he needs a yelling from you." Niki said. "I won't yell." She said as she motioned for Niki to go, "Keep the crowd entertained." And with that she walked away and to the football team.

She was so close when Noah and Sam blocked her way. "Move."

Her voice caught the attention of both her father and Clay. Carver hummed and patted his back. Phil walked to her and patted Noah and Sam's back.

"You're not allowed here." He said with a sigh. Willa gulped, "I know but-" "No buts Wils. I don't need you berating Clay even if he isn't playing." He cut her off. Willa frowned, "He isn't playing?" she asked.

Noah sighed, "Why do you think we're losing?" he said as Sam huffed and crossed his arms. "I respect you Willa but please don't glum him more-" "I won't." she cut him off looking at her dad.

"I won't. I promise." She said. Phil sighed and glanced at her and then the scores. "Fine, 3 minutes." He said as she let her through.

Her heart was beating fast when she walked past the other members. And when she reached Carver and Clay the former stood up and sent her a look. Willa sent him a pleading one, Carver sighed and walked away.

She let out a breath, "What are you doing?" she asked. Clay sighed and looked up at her. Her heart dropped at the sight, "You aren't supposed to be here-" "Your coach let me." she cut him off.

Clay scoffed and stood up, walking past her, "Well I don't want you here." He said. She snickered, "Have you seen the scores-" "Of course I have." He cut her off again looking back at her. He glared at her but she didn't cower.

Willa Baker had been glared at by Clay Thompson so many times, this wasn't any different. "Then what the hell are you doing?' she asked. He was about to answer when she cut him off again, "Get your head out of your ass and win before I do it myself." She said as she crossed her arms.

Clay scoffed, "I don't know if you see but were lugging behind. And quite frankly I don't think you yelling at me will help." He said as he crossed his arms.

But Willa wasn't taking no for an answer, "Then play." She said. He snickered, "You don't get to boss me around." He said. They stared at each other, Willa knew her time was ticking from the way Phil was glancing at her.

She sighed and licked her lips, "I'm sorry." She said. Clay's eyes widened, "What?' he asked in shock. "I lied. I wasn't playing." She said as she looked back at him. Clay looked like he was gonna break, "Don't play with me. Please." He whispered.

Willa shook her head, "I'm not. You were right, you won Clay." She said as she saw Phil walking to them from the corner of her eyes. The yells of her girls and the crowd making her walk closer to him.

"You may think I won because you said you liked me in Middle School but Clay, those times when we were good, you held my heart. You still do." She said. Clay watched her, "And if it's because of me why you aren't playing, I'm sorry. But you were right, you won and yet I pushed you away." She said.

"You- Willa please-" "I'm not playing with you. I never was." She cut him off. "What do you want me to do?" he asked. She smiled at him, "Win." She said. His eyes brightened, a familiar spark appeared in his eyes.

"Willa you gotta go." Phil said with a sigh as the referee blew the whistle. Willa nodded and moved away, "I'll play." Clay said as he held Willa's gaze. Phil looked at him in shock, "You will?" "Yeah I will."

The cheer captain smiled and nodded, "Win." She said and he snickered, "I will." He said. She hummed and turned to walk away when she stopped, Phil was about to speak but she cut him off.

"Oh and Clay." She said catching his attention again, he looked back at her and raised an eyebrow, "If you win, I'll go to prom with you." she said. He beamed and tilted his head, "Finally?" he asked. She chuckled and nodded, "Finally."
