"bonfire"

Nothing interesting happened at school that day. The captains and their team were very much excited for the bonfire that night.

So the moment that the last bell rung, the captains ran to their cars as quick as they could so they can go home and get ready.

The bonfire that year was by the lake where Alex's family lake house was on. It was the most awaited night of the teams aside from captain's night of course.

The first ones that Alex welcomed was his team which was the soccer team. Karl was quick to help his friend as George called his best friends.

"Where the hell are you?" George asked as he called Nick. "Behind you idiot." Nick said as he hung up. George turned to see one of his best friends with his team.

The basketball team entered, rowdy as usual and started to mingle with the soccer team. Punz immediately berating Ponk while Tommy and Ranboo stuck together waiting for the rest of their friends. Nick and Jimmy walking to George.

"Just on time." Nick joked making Jimmy laugh at George who rolled their eyes. "Good, we have to help Alex and Karl." The Brit said as he pulled his friends who started to groan.

It didn't take long for the swim team to arrive. Toby quickly ran to his brother and best friend and walked by the shore to test the waters. The sun was yet to set so there was still some light upon them.

Jack and Charlie quickly helped Karl and Nick with the lights knowing fully well that the girls may arrive and they would start yelling of the lights weren't up yet. Boomer and Bad scattered to look for a missing Punz and Ponk while Chris and Zak accompanied Chandler and Alex with the snacks.

A few minutes later the football team arrived. Clay smirked when he saw that most of the decorations and preparations were up. That was until Nick walked to him, "You are coming with me." he said and pulled him to the back.

"Where-" "We need some wood for the bonfire." Nick cut him off and they walked to where Alex showed Nick where the stacks of wood were leaving Carver and his team to mingle amongst themselves and the rest of the people.

Carver stuck close to Karl while Sam found Boomer and they sat by the shore looking after the three freshmen so they don't go further in the water. Max was following Noah around who was passing out the beer already.

It took some time when the glee club arrived with their sound system and instruments. Will had let Freddie, Bill and Amy to spend some time with the three boys as him and Eret fixed the things with band.

Clay and Nick had returned and Carver helped Jimmy with making the fire with Nick but Clay stood up. Searching the now crowd of people but sighed when he realized that the cheer team wasn't there yet.

He turned to Will who looked back at him. The twin smirked, "Calm down lover boy, she'll be here." He said. Clay scoffed, "I never asked-" "Because you didn't have to." Niki cut him off.

The others looked to see the cheer team finally arrived. Hannah skipped to Boomer and Sam with Puffy walking to Noah grabbing a beer. Emma plopped down next to Carver who was now settling on a bean bag as Minx messed with the cricket crew leaving Tina and Rae to find Karl and Maddy to find Jimmy.

Though Clay looked past Niki expecting to see Willa but she wasn't there yet. George walked to him and patted his back, "Relax she's just parking." He said. Clay shook him off and turned to the fire.

It was a few minutes later when he finally heard her. "Jack! How many times do I have to remind you how to park?!" Willa yelled catching the attention of the others. Jack shrugged, "A few more times." He said as she reached the general area. She grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. "Hey!" Jack yelled.

She chuckled and walked to Puffy and Noah where she was offered a beer which she accepted. Clay walked to her, memorizing how she looked, she wore a white cropped tee, her blue washed jeans and red jacket. Her hair let down which made him smile.

"You're still wearing it." he said as he motioned to her hand. She looked down and furrowed her eyebrows, "What?" she asked. Clay sent her a look and she huffed, "The bracelet or the ring?" she asked.

Willa glanced back down to her hand where the red yarn bracelet laid and as well as the cheap fake wedding band they had gotten when they were at the marriage booth. "The ring." He said.

She hummed and nodded as she sipped her beer. "So does that mean we're married still?" he asked as Will and the band started to play some music. She chuckled and raised her hand to look at the ring. "I don't know. I mean divorce is a thing." She joked.

He laughed and shook his head, "You would really divorce me?" he asked. She smirked at him, "We'll see in the long run." She said as she winked. He smiled and nodded, "Well then I'll have to work very hard so you won't."

As the night continued with games, dares and tipsy people, Clay found himself joining Willa sitting on a blanket looking out at the lake as the moon shone above them with the stars.

They watched as a few teammates swam in the dark water laughing and giggling to each other. Them being the most sober out of everyone, they decided to stick together.

Willa was focusing on the sight of her twin with Tommy on his shoulder as Noah had Puffy on his. But Clay kept glancing at Willa. He thought she didn't notice but she felt it.

"If you have anything to say just say it." she whispered. It clashed with Toby's ukulele playing and Jack and Niki's singing. "I don't-" he was cut off when she sent him a look. He sighed and plopped on his back.

She chuckled, "What is it?" she asked as she hugged her knees. "I still don't know what to do about the paper thing." He muttered. His heart on his sleeve. She huffed, "You still have time. And if you need help I can-" "No." he cut her off.

Willa turned to look at him and furrowed her eyebrows. He gulped, "I want to do this on my own so I can show you everything I learned from you." he said. Her eyes softened and Clay just knew that his heart stopped at the sight.

A small smile resided on her lips, a soft glint in her eyes and the tiniest tilt of her head. His breath hitched as he sat up, "I- I want to show you how I'm not the boy you hated or get arguments with. I'm...." he trailed as she continued to watch him.

"I'm your friend." He said. Willa hummed and nodded, "I'm your friend too." she said. He smiled and nodded, "Even if I'm annoying and egotistical and a leo." He joked. She let out a laugh, loud enough to be heard by their friends.

But Willa and Clay didn't give them any attention. She nodded, "Even if you are the most leo person I know which says something because Carver and Emma are-" he laughed loudly making her smile, "-you'll still be my friend."

"Good. We're good." He said as he nodded. She hummed and looked out the water again, "We are. We're good." She whispered. She sighed in relief, "Tonight's beautiful." She said. And despite being the most cliché thing ever, he spoke again, "Yeah beautiful." He said while looking at her.

"No one drowns if I'm sober, obviously." They heard Jack say. They turned to see Jack pulling Niki to the lake making them laugh. It was a memory to hold onto for sure.
