Ace sighed to herself as her brother guided her into his B&B room. He'd of course refused to pay and made it clear he wouldn't. The owners of course, having a gun to their head couldn't hardly say no."Get some sleep love." He mumbled as he pointed at the bed.
She slowly walked over as he chucked her one of his shirts.
"And change out of that shitty shirt." He snapped as her eyes drifted down.
She was still wearing Ace's shirt. Her mind raced over all the memories of the times she'd had with him.
She accepted her brothers shirt and quickly changed into his as he was standing looking out the window down at Castle Rock.
"Sleep." He ordered as she got took her bottoms off and got into the bed.
She watched as he stayed staring out the window. Her head gently touched the pillow as her eyes shut. Ace Merrill appeared in her mind almost instantly.
Yet it was back when they'd first met, not when they saw each other across the street but when they'd spoke in Irbys. The moment they'd swapped names but learnt they weren't lone Aces anymore.
Her mind skipped to when he hit up the pawn shop with her. Her sleeping body twitched as she watched Ace's arm go around her waist before he smashed the counter up. The way he'd held her hand as they left.
Ace's sleeping body rolled over on her side as her memories replayed the moment she had been laying on his bed with him and she rolled to face him. The moment they had shared that first kiss, knowing it was the most stupid thing they could have both done. Aces shouldn't get involved with other Aces.
She rolled back over onto her back as the feeling of dancing in his arms came back. He'd lifted her up and spun her around as she had never felt safer in his hold. Her mouth twitched in her sleep as she remembered the feeling of his lips on hers. They had both fit so perfectly together but maybe that was the problem. They were too much the same.
Ace flung her body into an upright position as she opened her eyes. Daylight shone through the window as she looked around to see J nowhere in sight. Quickly jumping out of bed she rushed into the bathroom. Nothing a good shower couldn't fix.
Her wet hair clung to her body as she stood directly under it. Keeping her eyes shut she almost tried to force the memories of Ace to come back but it just wasn't happening. She grumbled to herself before stepping out of the shower and grabbing the towel to get dry. Wrapping it around herself she walked back out into the bedroom, not caring about the water dripping on the floor.
Walking over to the window she looked out at the street below. People were beginning to go about their daily business as she watched on. Her mind refused to stop thinking about Ace. If they weren't so similar and both weren't fighting for the role of Ace. It was always going to be an if. If they dropped the Ace name. If they didn't have J to worry about. J.
Ace took a deep breath as she looked over to the bedside table with the small knife he'd given her yesterday. A little note by its side. She didn't have to read it to know what it said. J wanted her to kill Ace. Just as he had wanted her to kill Darren. She had taken Darren's life yes. But could she take Ace's?
Walking over she picked up the knife and rolled it around in her hands. The leather sheath being the only protection from the deadly poison. She sighed as she chucked it on the bed and got changed back into her bottoms except she stood there looking down at two shirts on the bed. One was J's. The other was Ace's. A tear fell down her cheek as she picked one up.
