Logan marched into Kate's apartment like a man on a mission. He had spent the night worrying about her after she had left in a hurry last night. Is she alright? Did she make it back to her place safely? And the biggest question of them all. Why did she leave in the first place? What did the person on the phone tell her to make her rush out the way she did? Is she in some kind of trouble?

All of these questions had kept him awake last night, playing on repeat as he considered any and all possible answers to them.

Now, as she stood in front of him, he breathed a sigh of relief. She was here, she was safe, and she was unharmed.

He couldn't understand what pushed him to worry so much, why he cared about her wellbeing to this extent. But something about Kate, something unexplainable, drew him to her and brought out the protective instincts in him to the surface. But that wasn't the only thing that confounded him when it came to Kate. There was so much about her that confused him.

She seemed to be focused and aware of her surroundings all the time it was a little scary sometimes. Whether it was people or objects, everything within her space was accounted for, like she had a mental map of her surroundings, so that when something or someone moved she was instantly aware.

Nothing took her by surprise.

Ever.

She always seemed tensed and poised, as if expecting to be attacked at any moment. This was the one that worried Logan the most. What had happened to her to put her on high alert all the time? Or is there more to it? Is it me? Is she scared of me somehow? She seems so calm and relaxed, but it's more like she's masking the fact that she is tense and ready for action.

Also, she seemed cold and indifferent most of the time, but then she would do something that completely contradicted that attitude like she let her mask slip for a moment and showed her true personality for a moment before she would go back to being cold, indifferent, and closed off.

As smart as Logan was, and he was very smart, he could not figure Kate out. But she was a puzzle he was excited to solve. He was in too deep to pull back now. And he was determined to see it through.

Logan was drawn from his musings by the sound of the door shutting, and he turned to see Kate ushering him toward the living room with her arm outstretched. He turned to go in the direction she was asking him to move in when he noticed something. Stopping in his tracks, Logan turned abruptly back towards Kate.

Before she could stop him, Logan grabbed her arm, looking intently at the fresh bruise on her upper arm. Even with the abrupt movement, Kate noticed that his hold on her arm was firm but not tight.

"What happened? Who hurt you? They're going to pay I swear-" Logan's harsh ranting of revenge was suddenly interrupted by Kate's soft laugh.

"Relax. I bumped my arm against the door when I was coming home last night. I'm fine," she told him with more laughter.

Logan breathed a sigh of relief, slowly releasing her arm, as if reluctant to let her go, even once he was assured that she was alright.

"But I do find it interesting that you were so worried. I didn't think you cared that much," she remarked as she led the way deeper into her apartment.

"Why wouldn't I care about you?" Logan asked, genuinely confused. Kate gave a sharp laugh at the question.

"What?" he asked, still at a loss.

"People don't usually care that much about people they have threatened," Kate stated calmly as she plopped down on the loveseat across from the window.
