The streets of New York were alive with activity. Kate looked around at all of it and smiled to herself. A few years ago she would have been part of the group heading to the club two blocks over.
"Maman regarde ! Cet homme est à l'envers!" (Mama look! That man is upside down!)
Kate glanced down, then across the park, where a group of acrobats was performing.
"C'est exact! Tu veux aller voir de plus près ?" (That's right! You wanna go get a closer look?) she asked, looking down at the bright green eyes staring up at her, excitement making them shine brighter.
Kate thought back to how those beautiful eyes came into her life.

Two years after Kate and Logan's wedding, they had been sitting in Kate's office in the Delaquor mansion, when Kate stopped typing and just stared off into space.
"Sweatheart? Are you alright?" Logan asked when he glanced up from the script he had been reading.
"I want a baby," she declared when she turned to face her husband.
Logan blinked.
Once.
Twice.
After the third one, he placed the script down and walked around the desk toward his wife.
"Are you sure?" he asked once he stood in front of her.
Kate paused and thought about it one more time.
"I'm sure. I want to raise a child with you," Kate replied, pushing her office chair back and standing up, never once looking away from her husband's face.
Looking down at his petite wife, Logan was reminded of why he could never deny her a single thing she asked for.
When he pictured her with his child in her arms, a feeling of warmth filled him, and so he nodded.
"Then let's do it."
~
Kate could still remember the feeling of that moment, as fleeting as it had been.

A few months later, they came home from a trip to the doctor and Kate could only make it as far as their room before she burst into tears.
The doctor had informed them that Kate's womb had suffered significant damage in the car accident four years ago, and would most likely never be able to carry a child.
Once again Tristan was trying to steal her happiness; this time from beyond the grave.
Kate grieved the child that would never be for a long time, and Logan grieved right along with her. Their family was over before it could even begin.
~
But Kate soon came to her senses.
~
"We're letting him win," she told Logan one night as they sat at the kitchen counter in their New York mansion.
"How so?" he asked as he pushed his laptop aside.
"Tristan's mission was to take away any form of happiness from me. By accepting that we'll never have a family of our own we're letting him win. We can't do that," Kate explained.
Logan nodded thoughtfully.
"You're right," he replied after a moment.
"So what's our game plan? How do we make sure Tristan doesn't win?" he asked after a moment of silence.
