Logan got up and rushed into the house in search of the car keys for his dad's truck.

He stopped in his tracks when he heard a phone ringing.

That's Kate's phone.  He thought to himself as he rushed into the dining room to get it. Seeing Marcos across the screen, Logan picked it up and answered quickly.

"Kate ! Nous avons un problème. Quelque chose a mal tourné avec les représailles. Tristan vient vous chercher." (Kate! We have a problem. Something went wrong with the retaliation. Tristan is coming for you.)

"Ce n'est pas Kate. C'est Logan. Qu'est-il arrivé? Que se passe-t-il?" (This isn't Kate. It's Logan. What happened? What's going on?)

"Logan? Where is Kate? This is an emergency," Marcos yelled through the phone.

"I don't know where she is! She rushed off in the car! I think she must have gone into town," Logan replied frantically, rushing to the wall where all the keys were hanging. He grabbed the keys to his dad's truck and raced out of the house.

"Well when you find her, tell her that Tristen knows where she is. He wasn't at his house when the retaliation team attacked, because he was already on his way to her. We don't know how he found out but we're on our way. We won't be able to get there for another hour and a half, so she needs to be ready for him," Marcos explained while Logan started the car, and Max got into the passenger seat.

"Marcos I think I have an idea about how he found out, but that's not important right now. I need the room number for the men staying in town," Logan spoke as he drove out of the ranch, the phone now on speaker and sitting on the dash.

"103. Under the name Luke Adams," Marcos replied without hesitation. "I've also informed the guys that are watching your house. One of them will be going with you. I've instructed the other, David, to stay and protect the house. Andrew is waiting for you on the side of the road," Marcos added.

"I see him. I'll call you later with an update," Logan replied before hanging up. He quickly veered the car to the side of the road and stopped to let Andrew get in.

"Have you spoken with boss?" Andrew asked in his thick French accent.

"Not yet. But I think she went over to your hotel, so that's where we'll check first," Logan replied, ignoring the gasp from Max.

Back at the hotel, Kate and Jac walked into the door to room 103 and walked straight through to the adjoining room, where they found Mason, another of her men, watching Spongebob on the room tv.

"David and Andrew?" she asked as she plopped down on one of the two beds in the room.

"Just started their shift 20 minutes ago," Jac replied, still studying her with concern. Kate nodded.

"Stop staring at me. I'm fine," Kate told Jac, just as Mason's phone rang. The way Mason sat up when he saw who was calling him, told everyone exactly who was calling.

"Oui monsieur?" (yes sir?) Kate watched as Mason listened to what Marcos had to say, and quickly got up on his feet.

"oui, elle est là." (yes, she's here.)

"Entendu." (Understood) As Jac and Kate listened to one side of the conversation, they watched as Mason picked up his gun and got to work checking the windows. This spurred them both into action; it was easy to understand that there was a threat looming.

Mason suddenly thrust the phone in Kate's direction, before going in search of his vest.

"Oui?" (yes?)

"Kate! Oh, mon amour, j'étais si inquiète !" (Oh, my love, I was so worried!) Jacob spoke from the other end. He quickly explained the situation to her.

Kate's first thought was anger. She knew she had been betrayed. And she had a sneaking suspicion that she knew exactly who had betrayed her.

But there were bigger problems at the moment.

Kate listened to everything her father said while she put on her bulletproof vest, and strapped on the two guns Jac tossed her. Adding a third one at her ankle, she paused to say goodbye to her papa.

Just then, she heard the screeching of tyers as three SUVs came to a stop outside the hotel. Kate quickly pulled her hood over her hair and tied a bandana over the bottom half of her face to hide her identity from the townspeople.

"La merde est sur le point de devenir réelle..." (Shit's about to get real...) Mason mumurred from his spot at the window.

AN: Hey...

Yes, I know... the chapters are super short... but things are about to get good, trust me.

I'm also just remembering I said no author's notes... Ooops...

Oh well. No harm done I guess.

To quote our dearest Kate, "rules were meant to be broken, but only by me!"

Be sure to tell me what you think and vote if you liked it!

Until next time,
