Once the officer was escorted out, with a promise that he would file the report and reach out soon, Kate breathed a small sigh.
As she had been explaining the story, Kate had been sitting rigidly on one end of the sofa. On the outside, she seemed completely at ease in the presence of the officer, but after two months together, Logan could see that she was uncomfortable. So once he had retrieved an ice pack from the freezer, Logan sat down beside Kate as she continued to tell the story, and placed a hand on her thigh.
Now that the officer was gone, Kate relaxed, turning and laying down across the sofa. Logan chuckled as he picked up the ice pack and placed it back onto her forehead.
"Not a big fan of the men in blue I take it?"
"Trusting law enforcement makes me very uncomfortable honestly," She murmured in response, draping her arm over her eyes.
"I see... So you're not afraid of them in any way?" Logan asked, looking down at her. Kate moved her arm a fraction to peek up at him just in time to see him fighting an amused smirk.
"I'm not afraid of that one, or his friends. The bigger agencies, maybe. But I just don't like being on their radar. But that's probably unavoidable while I'm in America," Kate explained, putting her arm back as she fought a smirk of her own.
"Okay, all jokes aside, I think you need a bodyguard. I know you have plenty, but I'm talking about an obvious one, not several hundred camouflaged ones, one that can physically intervene in simple situations like this. At least think about it," Logan suggested as he sat in a large brown armchair to the left of her head. He sat with his elbows on his knees and his hands pressed together in front of his face as he watched her carefully.
"You might be right. But I don't think I'll hire one. I'll just have one of my silent men as my official bodyguard, the Marcos is my fathers for all intents and purposes,"
"Did you just- did you just agree with me?" Logan exclaimed, gasping in exaggerated surprise.
"Hah hah, very funny. But I'm learning. This is uncharted territory for me, and I'm learning that I don't know everything in this scenario. I need to learn to accept some help here and there," Kate explained turning her head to face him as she spoke. This sobered him up almost instantly, and he cleared his throat nervously.
"I'm glad you're learning. So why didn't you do the bodyguard thing before? Wouldn't it make sense for you to have protection as well if you're father is walking around with a bodyguard at all times?" Logan asked, in an attempt to steer the conversation in another direction.
"Well, in France I do have a security detail. But only when I'm in the city. Here I just always thought it would draw too much attention. Everyone knows where you are in a crowd when you have an entire security detail. Those guys aren't even a little subtle. Which is why I'm still a little reluctant. But it's clearly necessary." Kate explained, closing her eyes but keeping her arm at her side this time.
"It's definitely necessary. So long as it isn't Simon," Logan replied, getting up and walking over to the other side of the sofa. Kate nodded.
"Not Simon. It's bad enough that he's on my team," she murmured.
"Why? Did something happen between you two or do you just dislike him?" Logan asked a slight threatening edge to his voice this time.
"You heard the way he undermined my authority. He knew that the kill order was mine to give, and he still spoke with Papa first. He's definitely going to be difficult to work with," she replied. Logan nodded in understanding.
"Also there is the small matter of our thing a few years ago, so working with him is a little awkward," she added, never once opening her eyes. It had been a long day and she was just about ready to fall asleep on the spot.
