He stood on the sidewalk of the warm, packed city,
in the promising blue sky,
the oblivious clouds within,
he saw, when the bike hit the car
and sped away; threatening lives ahead.
No apologies, no gazes
they dashed off with plain empty smiles,
while the girl in the backseat
trembled in shock and surprise.
They checked the damage done to the car,
she checked the damage of her heart,
lips straight, lost in thought,
she gazed at me and surprised me in the breeze,
'What would you have done,
if you hurt someone, accidentally?'
Stunned, I opened my mouth,
to speak; anything to let her know I'm listening,
but before I could, the car left the spot,
leaving the roads clean.
I don't know, I whispered to myself,
we run from the crimes we do.
The accused knocks away the victim,
stripped of what they held with pride,
and instead, filling the void with insecurity and guilt.
The road too, looked clear of
the accident that had occurred,
the graphite devoid of equity.
Only the people there knew what happened,
many of them who averted their eyes.
I knew, those eyes, those whispers
they wouldn't stay and neither would I,
but that girl in the backseat,
she visits the road, everyday
in guilt or in annoyance,
in her sleep or in the clear light.

Personal Notes :-
Ah, this is such a beautiful poem if you notice the hidden gems in there :')
Well, if you weren't able to, let me help.
This poem was actually a metaphor for how people commit mistakes but never actually admit to them, because of the consequences, maybe or even because of other reasons. This was obvious throughout the poem.
But! When our male protagonist in the poem opened his mouth to speak, he couldn't actually speak anything. Maybe out of shock, yes, but so very often, we want to speak something to relieve the strangers we see who are out there, doing the unusual.
Just because someone is out there doing something different, doesn't mean they aren't 100% confident about it.
A single word from you could make their day, give them that little confidence boost they so badly needed. Ahhh :')
Then, the last stanzas depicted all those I can't sleep because I'm still replaying the memories moment, of course.
Overall, I'm proud of myself (again)
Anyways, thank you for listening!
Please take care, people.
Love, Hacs.
