"kayama!" natsuo called as soon as he got out of the car, holding a two pack of beer. "it's nice to see the both of you again"i'm literally standing right here, natsuo.
"yo, little bro!" he then called out to me, shoving me under his armpit to give me a noogie.
um, ouch?
once i snuck out of his tight grip, i gave him a light shove, "alright, alright– i surrender".
he laughed, setting the beer down. "it's been a while, sho"
it has, hasn't it? the last time i saw natsuo in person was the last time i visited forks, which was many, many years ago.
we video chatted, of course. but seeing him right now? in person? it's a whole different type of feeling.. one that i could most certainly get used to. and hopefully, it stays that way.. well, for a little while at least. i honestly don't think i could go another five years not being able to see him again. just thinking about it makes my stomach churn.
"c'mere" he softly spoke, wrapping his arms around me.
safe, and secure. is what it felt like to be in my brothers arms. i almost didn't want to leave.
"you're staying for a few days, right?" i mumbled, looking up at him.
"sure am, little bro" he grinned, "it's gonna feel like old times. try not to get déjà vu, yeah?"
when i pulled back, i gave him a soft smile in return, deciding to help him take a few of the things he brought inside the house.
"it's been so long since i've seen you, natsuo" nemuri smiled, and then her eyes flashed towards me– with a thin line dancing on her lips.
you know what i said about feeling safe and secure? yeah, let's just forget i ever said anything about that.
"i know!" he agreed, "felt like it was forever ago".
"are you guys ready for the game?" i asked, trying to direct the mood somewhere else, knowing nemuri would hop easily into the topic.
yaomomo grinned. "well, i'd hope that is the plan. our television decided to break last minute"
not a moment later kayama made a face at his son. "plus momo here kept bugging me to see you again".
momo scowled, shooting his mother an irritated look. "great, mom. thanks".
"are you guys hungry?" i asked, beginning to walk to the front door, much eager to shrug off kayama's wondering gaze.
"sure are!" she grinned, holding a bag of some sort. "your mother told me to bring some of my fish fry".
"no way!" natsuo yelled, "i love that shit!"
"i know you do, baby" she made her way over to give him a hug, "that's why i brought it".
"alright then, while mom and fuyumi are doing some finishing touches, let's head in" i noted to the three of them, who all made some gestures in return.
after that it was a long night. i had quite a few things left to do around the house, but i was afraid to leave nemuri alone with my mom, and my two siblings.
finally, a few minutes later, the game ended. it was time to settle down.
i was washing a few of the dishes– though i was told i didn't have to, i insisted, only because i wanted to hear the last of the conversations going around.
"you're still studying criminal justice, right natsuo?" kayama questioned, beginning to wrap her coat around her.
he responded, "yeah, that's right. i'm actually interning at the police department down here in forks".
