A/n: I will only be writing fxf for my books from now on

"Why?"

Kaylee's eyes snapped open. As you both watched the latest episode of Euphoria, she had almost fallen asleep in your arms. You seemed to enjoy the show a lot. How could you not be impressed by Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, and Hunter Schafer's performances?

Kaylee had grown tired of the show since she didn't enjoy you staring at Cassie's/ Sydney's boobies as if they were candy. You reassured her that you only look at her boobies like candy, being the wonderful girlfriend that you are. Kaylee responded by rolling her eyes and smacked your arm in amusement at your sarcasm.

Kaylee's couch was just large enough to accommodate both of you with the empty bowl of ice cream resting between you.

"What?" Kaylee inquired, unsure if she had heard your voice or if she was already dreaming.

When she didn't get a response, Kaylee turned around and gazed up at you. With a peculiar look in your eyes, you stared back at her.

"Kaylee? Why me?"

Kaylee blinked again before shuffling to face you directly. Was she beginning to doubt herself? If that's the case, it couldn't have come at a worse time. They were supposed to tie the knot the following morning.

Fortunately, it turned out that you had been joking about the need for thorough planning all along. Instead of waiting a year for what they both believed was coming, you had proposed a few days before that they immediately elope. There would always be time to get together with friends and family to celebrate. But why go another day without being with each other?

However, Kaylee noticed that you were concerned as she stared at you.

Kaylee pondered her thoughts.

Anata wa utsukushī damī. (you beautiful dummy)

Kaylee reached up and cupped your cheek with her palm.

"Really Y/n? In special warfare, you stare people down all the time, but not the big ring?"

You kept a grim expression on your face and said nothing.

Kaylee reached around the back of your neck and brought you close to her own face with a frustrated groan.

"'Because of how you never give up, Y/n. I understand how difficult things were for you. You had plenty of opportunities to take the easy way out, but you didn't. You put up a fight. Not only for your sake, but also for ours."

Kaylee could see your eyes soften somewhat, despite the fact that your demeanor remained same.

"Because of everything you do to demonstrate your love for me. It's not only about the big stuff, either. I observed you this morning putting milk in each of our coffees, and I know how much you despise it. Even though I'm sure you know you shouldn't be doing it, I'm sure you're trying to become used to it so we can share the same experience. It's a beautiful thing, Y/n."

As you allowed yourself to be drawn closer, the corners of your mouth began to pull together into a smile. As Kaylee lowered her voice to just above a hushed whisper, your lips were just inches apart.

"'Cause every day I wake up with you, it's the best day of my life. I can't imagine ever goin' back. I love you so much y/n...how could I not?"

Kaylee dragged you forward the rest of the way, enabling your lips to press against one other. This kiss felt different from the rest of the kisses you'd enjoyed. It had a slight release' to it. Though, Kaylee found it strangely comfortable as she lost herself in the moment.

Finally, you got air. Your faraway expression had been replaced by a big grin.

"Thank you, Kay. I believe I needed to hear that, I think."

Kaylee smiled back at you. "Of Course. I mean you know you're gonna be hearin' it tomorrow all over again right? Could've just waited a day."

"I know. I like hearin' it from you."

Kaylee planted another kiss on your lips before she allowed her eyes to drift back to the movie. It was nearly over, though she had no idea what was happening on the screen any longer.

Suddenly, it hit her. This was going to be the last night of her life that she was ever truly 'single'. Alone. Had that been what you had been contemplating? That their lives were about to change in a way they couldn't foresee?

Kaylee tried to lose herself in the mindless action, but it was proving to be impossible as a question began to burn at the forefront of her mind.

Why?

"Ennie for your thoughts," you murmured as you picked up the spoon and sifted between the chocolate chips and cookie dough ice cream, attempting to find one large enough to eat.

Kaylee swallowed and returned her gaze to you. "Why?"

You shifted your gaze away from the ice cream and toward Kaylee. There were a plethora of explanations that came to mind. Her courage, her dedication, and her desire to please others and make the world a better place. And that was just the beginning.

The way she would play with her hair while she was deep in concentration on a role she was rehearsing, or the way she would grin at you each morning when you woke up together. There were so many options, but none of them seemed to adequately express your thoughts.

Finally, you agreed on the only phrases she could think of, praying they weren't cliched or clunky.

"Kaylee, you're the one. You were there for me when I needed you the most, and you'll always be the most important to me. I love you, forever and always."

For a moment, the two of you stared back at each other before you leaned into another kiss. Kaylee could feel her heart pounding in her chest. She had never been good with the mushy stuff. Despite this, you had somehow opened up that part of her. And it felt nice to say things she would have sneered at otherwise.

After parting Kaylee's hair and running your fingers through it you drew Kaylee closer to you with your arm stretched over her. The movie was almost done, but neither of you were willing to move.

As Kaylee felt her eyes beginning to grow heavy once more, she caught sight of the ring on your hand. She reached up and wove her fingers between yours, briefly grazing across its cool, metal surface.

"Tomorrow," she heard you whisper above her.

Kaylee closed her eyes and smiled.

"Tomorrow."
