WILL POV:
"Are you sure it won't show up on the drug test?" I ask for the hundredth time as Mom parks the car outside of the police station."Yes," Nico groans in exasperation, "It's been over two weeks, I'm fine."
"Okay," I say warily. I know I should trust him and I do, but I'm still nervous.
We walk into the police station and Nico goes up to the desk and says what he's here for and then sits down next to me. I didn't even notice I was shaking my leg until he put a hand on my knee and looked at me.
"It's just a routine check-in," he says quietly. "I'm fine."
"I know I know," I say holding his hand.
A tall man in a police uniform comes up to us and shoots a quizzical look at my mom and me.
"Walker said to have you meet him in his office, he's making you guys coffee," he says, looking at Nico like he's the scum of the earth.
"Wonderful," Nico says smiling sarcastically. "Always great to see you, Jean."
"Wish I could say the same," he scoffs.
My mom and I exchange an uncomfortable look but don't say anything as Nico walks back like he knows exactly where he's going.
"Who are you two? Nicos' father normally brings him," the officer asks.
"He lives with us now," My mom says calmly, "So we brought him since Nico said you'll want to talk to us?"
"Right, follow me," he says waving us back towards the door. We follow him into a small conference room and sit across from the officer. "Why does he live with you two?"
"Well, his home life wasn't ideal," Mom says vaguely. "So I thought it would be beneficial for him to move in with us."
"And who are you two to him?" he asks, looking between us boardly.
"Well my son here is his boyfriend," Mom says.
The guy laughs. "Course he's gay should have known."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask narrowing my eyes at him. I don't like the way he's talking about Nico so far.
"Oh nothing," he says waving a dismissive hand. "So I'm going to assume you two are aware of his rap sheet, and why he's on probation and all that?"
"Well, I know the general idea," Mom says.
"I know most of it," I add.
"So you're aware that he's on probation mainly for putting two kids in the hospital?"
"Yes," mom says. "But he's told us the story, and while I'll admit he went overboard it was still self-defense."
"Self-defence or not, with his previous history of violence he's a danger to society," he says deadpan.
"Getting into a few fights doesn't deem you a danger to society?" Mom says baffled at the officers' rudeness.
"Oh," the officer smirks. "I'm going to assume based on that, that you don't know about his mother and sister's murder? And what he did to their killer?"
Mom freezes a little, "I wasn't aware they were murdered."
I knew she didn't even know he had a sister, but it was probably smart that she hadn't mentioned that.
"I know," I say. "He told me."
"Well, didn't you think that telling your mother that your boyfriend committed a violent murder was pretty important information if she was going to let him live under her roof?"
