The first time Iwaizumi saw him was when he was brought in with an ambulance cot. It was only in passing, seeing the patient in a coughing fit, hand over his chest yet every time he calmed down he was chuckling hoarsely. The nurse who was rushing by the cots side looked nothing but annoyed by the patient.
It's not like Iwaizumi hasn't witnessed it before, but he noted how instead of being brought to emergency surgery or even one of the emergency rooms the patient was taken to the upper levels, where most of the 'regulars' stayed
Iwaizumi stopped in front of the large desk while watching the elevator doors close before turning back to one of his coworkers sitting behind the desk and typing away at the computer He placed down his paperwork on top of the desk before deciding to ask.
"Do you know what was up with the guy they just brought in?"
Matsukawa looked up from his screen, looking at the stack of papers while scrunching his face "You mean Oikawa? They didn't just bring him in," was the blunt reply he received
"What do you mean? They brought him in through the ambulance doors and he was on one of the cots," Iwaizumi pushed, curiosity getting the best of him But Mattsun only shook his head.
"He's been in and out of the hospital for a while now. But I think he's getting worse since he's been stuck here the past three months. This is just his third time sneaking off.."
Iwaizumi seemed rather dumbfounded at the new information. Then again he doesn't deal with the upper levels of the hospital much "Third time sneaking off? Does he not want to get treated?"
"Third time this week," Mattsun corrected, chuckling in amusement before shrugging. "But I dunno. His nurse just complains to me about him, I think he's just sick of the place.." he trailed off, grabbing Iwaizumi's papers before signing and adding, "Can't really blame him though."
In summary, Iwaizumi's first impression of Oikawa was simply a reckless patient.
And then one day Iwaizumi was ordered to take care of the reckless patient.
"Ma'am, I don't think you get it. I only assist with the emergency patients, I rarely even go up to the higher floors," Iwaizumi was attempting to argue with what he supposed would be considered one of his bosses in the most polite way.
The doctor sighed, not seeming to care much about what he had to say though. "I looked over your records, you're perfectly capable of handling a few of the regular patients. All you really need to do is check in and make sure none of them are climbing out the window and that they are taking their medications. Besides that I'll still be going up there to deal with anything major."
Iwaizumi still wasn't convinced. "But-"
He was cut off. "Look, we are spread thin when it comes to staffing. Besides one or two stubborn patients this will be easy work for you. Once I get the staff I need I promise you'll be moved back to your previous position," she stated firmly.
And well.. Iwaizumi didn't have it in him to argue.
And it just so happens the first room he walks into while scanning over his papers happens to be Oikawa. And of course, right off the bat the patient was causing a hassle, causing Iwaizumi to witness what he could only describe as a 'prison breakout'.
