Akaashi was in a relationship. Bokuto knew this. A relationship that wasn't with him. He also knew that.
And yet that didn't stop his feelings from growing. A real fool in love. It got to the point where Akaashi would excuse himself early from a few practices because he had a date or his partner was waiting on him and Bokuto would want to say no. That he would have to cancel plans or wait till after practice. Of course, he never did. He didn't have a real reason to do so. He couldn't stop Akaashi from dating someone else. It's not like he ever had the guts to confess anyways.
But that didn't mean he liked it. Bokuto never even met them but already had a strong dislike for them. He just never got a good vibe from them even while Akaashi talked about them. Whenever Akaashi's 'mystery lover' was brought up he would get all tense and uncomfortable. No one seemed to notice but Bokuto did.
One day after practice was when Bokuto got his solid proof as to why he could hate the person he's never met. Bokuto and Akaashi were alone in the locker room with everyone outside or leaving. Bokuto had previously left but returned when realizing he had forgotten something. And that's when he saw it.
No one seemed to question how Akaashi would wait for everyone to leave the locker room to change. Or the long sleeves or jackets he would wear as he would always state he was cold. Reasonable enough the weather was getting cold.
However, when Bokuto walked in it was pretty obvious that wasn't the only reason. Akaashi had his jacket slipped off and there were several bruises on both arms. Bruises that couldn't just be made from volleyball.
Akaashi didn't even seem to notice someone had come in, too focused on a message on his phone.
