Chapter 22

An hour later, we were still situated on my bed, my head lolling against his chest as I sat between his open legs, his back resting against my wall.

I could feel his chin digging into the top of my hair but no amount of discomfort could have made me move from this place.

It felt perfect.

We hadn't uttered another word about what had happened to me, but I could practically hear the mechanics moving in his head bursting with a million and one questions.

It made my stomach tingle to know that he was purposefully avoiding asking me tonight, knowing I was stumped for now.

I just wanted to forget about it.

To forget about him.

"What time is it?" he mumbled into my hair and I sighed when I realised I had to move to check my phone.

I stretched out on the bed and lay on my stomach to reach my phone.

I glanced at the screen and was surprised at what it read.

I told Tristan and turned round to find him in the same position, sat up against the wall, legs open with his arms resting against his knees as he played with his knuckles.

"Do you have to go?" I whispered quietly, not quite being able to look him in his eyes as I ran a self conscious hand through my hair.

I didn't want him to know how much I appreciated his company and how much I just wanted him to stay with me.

The nightmares would come back if he left.

And I really did not want that to happen.

Maybe the fact that he made my heart flutter was another reason I wanted him to stay.

But he didn't need to know that.

"Do you want me to stay?" I looked up when he spoke and found his eyes looking at me intently, trying to gauge my reaction.

When I nodded shyly, he smiled softly and told me to come to him.

We resumed our earlier position and I basked in the feeling of his arms around me as I laid my head on his chest, the beating of his heart being the only noise to me.

I raised my head when I felt his heart rate increase slightly.

It was almost going as fast as mine.

His face was so close to mine that it was becoming difficult to breath properly and so I placed my hand on his chest, his beating heart under my palm.

"Why is your heart racing?" I muttered quietly, looking back into his eyes to find him staring at me, the question still blazing in my eyes.

As if under a spell, my gaze was drawn to his lips, parted and full, and the sound of his shallow breathing filled me with a fierce longing.

"Mia," he whispered, no power over the pull I was suddenly feeling. In slow motion, I bent toward him, closing my eyes to caress his mouth with my own. A weak gasp escaped me, but I couldn't relent. The taste of his lips was far more than I bargained for, and I drew him close with a raspy groan. With a fierce hold, he cupped the back of my neck and kissed me deeply, gently, possessive in his touch. His fingers twined in my hair, desperate to explore and I let him, moving my head upwards so he had better access.

He moved his lips to my jaw, his skilled lips running the length of my neck and making me feel like any minute I would burst into flames.

I gripped his collar hard in my fists, holding him to me, scared he would disappear at any moment and that this perfect moment would vanish with him.
