It felt like I'd lived a lifetime when dinner finally arrived at school.
I'd had to push myself through four periods of lessons and force myself to look past the obvious stares and whispering.
I was sort of grateful that this break time had finally arrived, and breathed a heavy sigh when I left my fourth lesson, maths equations already blowing out of my mind.
I walked over to my locker, Grace following in my footsteps and dumped my books in there.
"Ready to meet my friends?" she asked softly.
"Sure, if you want me to" she smiled warmly and I tried to smile back, attempting to cover how nervous I actually was to meet these new people.
What if they didn't like me?
Then they'd probably tell Grace what an absolute idiot I actually am and then she won't want to be around me either.
I knew this wasn't going to go well.
She dragged me by my sleeve, laughing slightly at my worried look and told me to not panic, that they were nice people.
I knew that was probably true but it didn't mean they'd like me.
We reached the food hall and I sorted my uniform out, checking my hair wasn't in its usual disheveled shape.
When we walked in, Grace was immediately waved over by a lightly skinned girl with a large smile.
She was sat with four other girls and one boy, who had is arm wrapped awkwardly around one of them, his eyes showing how uncomfortable he was.
"Grace I haven't seen you all day, where've you been?" a girl with pretty blue eyes and a long ponytail looked pointedly at Grace.
"Sorry, busy in the library and stuff" she plonked herself down in between the girl who waved and a dark skinned girl who had a tan any girl would wish for.
I just stood there like the awkward person that I am.
"Guys this is Mia, she just moved in next to me this summer and think you should all meet her" she smiled at me and gestured for me to sit on the other side of the dark skinned girl.
"I'm Jade" she said. Her dark hair was cut short at her shoulders and she had a small stood reflecting in her nose. She had the longest eye lashes I'd seen and she had a warm smile.
The girl who waved introduced herself as Alisha. She had long brown hair and very light skin, her eyes standing out on her face. They were deep brown and and drew you in almost instantly. They were stunning.
"This is Lucy and her boyfriend Matt" Jade said, pointing at the girl with the boy draped over her shoulders. He put his hand up and waved slightly, looking almost as awkward as I felt. His girlfriend smiled and her cheeks heated up instantly, her blush lighting up the room.
Strange.
"They're the most awkward people you'll ever meet" Jade said quietly so only I could hear, "They suit tremendously, but both of them are so awkward they struggle to have a decent relationship" she rolled her eyes discreetly, "but don't worry, you'll get used to them."
Jade seemed like the one who spoke the most, and I liked her instantly, her style and personality warming me.
I looked over at the girl with blue eyes and bright brown hair who had purposefully avoided me when I'd arrived at the table.
She still hadn't introduced herself and was staring at her nails, avoiding my eyes.
Grace looked at me and then looked at her, sensing discomfort.
