Chapter Four

I crashed to the floor with a bang just as the phone fell from my hand and clattered to the floor.

Tears were streaming down my face before I even realised, and it was becoming too hard to breathe.

I grabbed hold of the table in front of me and rested my head between my hands, trying to take deep laboured breaths.

It was him.

And he'd found me again.

I noticed black dots dancing at the edge of my vision as I realised my breathing technique wasn't working.

I needed to calm down.

"Are you okay?" I heard a voice suddenly, startling me from my current position.

I looked up at the intruder and saw Tristan stood in the doorway to the kitchen, staring down at me with a hint of something I hadn't seen before in his eyes.

He walked over to me quickly when he noticed I was struggling for breath and crouched down beside, his hand hesitating above my back.

"Mia, are you okay?" He said again but more quietly, concern lacing his words.

It was then that I finally noted what emotion was hiding behind his sparkling blue eyes.

Concern.

And for me.

I was so stunned by this revelation that it helped me forget what had happened not more than two minutes ago and help my breathing get back to a more reasonable state.

"Mia talk to me" he whispered in my ear, finally having the courage to place his large hand on the small of my back.

His touch sent a jolt of electricity through my body and I looked up at him, my cheeks stained with tears and slowly turning a deep shade of crimson at how intimate this moment felt.

I stared at him for way too long and became lost in his beautiful blue eyes as he continued to stare back at me, the same expression plastered across his face.

"I'm fine" I stuttered out when I broke away from his stare. "I think." I added on the end, deciding not to lie to him.

"What happened? Are you sure? I didn't know what to do? Do you want Connor? Or your mum?" He bombarded me with multiple questions and I put my hands up in front of my face, stopping any further words.

"Tristan I don't want anyone, I'm fine or at least I will be" I stated as I took a large breath and exhaled slowly, closing my eyes for a few seconds and opening them again.

"Honestly" I whispered as I looked up at him, seeing that he still looked concerned and confused at how he had found me.

"Just go Tristan. You don't even want to be here" I added, finally realising what person I was speaking to and seeing him for what he actually was.

His face changed instantly, masking his concern with anger as he ripped his hand from my back.

The place where his hand had held felt cold and I yearned for him to touch me again.

What the hell was wrong with me?

"I genuinely try to help someone and just have it thrown back in my face. Fine, I don't care, go and deal with whatever strange issues you have on your own" he glared at me and turned away, stomping back down the stairs towards the other boys who were still trying to figure out James strange exit earlier.

I stared at the place where he'd last stood and the guilt started to settle in.

I'd just pushed someone away who'd truly tried to help me, regardless of his earlier attitude.
