Chapter Six
Most of the journey towards band practice was silent.
He'd ask me every now and again if I approved of the song on the radio or would tap his fingers lightly to the beat on his steering wheel, but other than that he barely spoke to me.
It was only a fifteen minute journey, but when he avoided any conversation with me, it started to get slightly boring.
We finally arrived at James' house, the chosen destination for today's practice, and I got out of Tristan's car, stretching my arms above my head and sighing softly.
As I looked up, slightly grey clouds were surfacing in the distance and I could tell that rain would soon be here.
Tristan locked the car behind him as I shut my door and we walked up to James' doorway.
"Now that you're finally here...oh" Brad opened the door and instantly spoke this, till he noticed my presence and gave me a soft smile.
"We didn't realise you were coming Mia" Brad said and looked at Tristan, his eye brows furrowed, "Connor didn't mention anything?"
"I wanted her to come" Tristan said simply and scooted past Brad, shrugging his shoulders.
"Okay?" He said, confusion still covering his face.
Brad motioned for me to come inside, so I did and stood in the doorway, listening to voices drifting down the corridor.
"You can go in you know" Brad whispered jokingly in the ear, "No ones going to bite" he smiled.
I smiled back and shrugged, "I just don't get why he invited me? I feel like I'm invading" I laughed half heartedly and looked down.
"Of course you're not" Brad said and grabbed my hand, in a friendly gesture, and lead me towards the voices.
I heard laughter when I first stepped through the doorway and then all eyes turned in our direction.
"Mia? What are you doing here?" Connor was the first to exclaim.
"I brought her" Tristan said with a smile on his face, still laughing from the joke before I'm guessing.
"My sister? You brought my sister to band practice? Are you crazy?" Connor asked, alarmed and also confused.
"Yep, why not?" He said and looked over to James who had no reason to suggest why I shouldn't be here.
"She's extremely welcome here" James said as he got up, and walked over to me, giving me a brief hug.
I smiled.
These boys really were something else.
"Do you want anything to eat or drink?" James asked, his voice echoing down the corridor as he went towards the kitchen.
"No thanks" I instantly replied, looking around the front room.
I felt Connor scowl for multiple reasons I expect and sat down again, arms crossed over his chest.
I looked over to Tristan and noticed him starting, a strange expression on his face, as if trying to work me out.
"Do you mind?" I said quietly enough for only him to hear.
"Why are you so..." he was about to ask with eyes narrowed when James came into the room and clasped Brad by the shoulder.
"How about we get started yeah?" James asked everyone and they all stood up, Connor still fuming, Tristan still suspicious and Brad completely oblivious.
