Chapter 6

Weekend arrived.

Yan Fei got ready and called Pin Jun. He was ready too. Pin Jun called Hai Qing. Hai Qing was getting ready.

Hai Qing is older than both the boys. He finished university three years back and now works as a teacher for a charity organization.

Yan Fei and Pin Jun reached the restaurant together. They sat down and waited for Hai Qing.

Yan Fei was feeling excited and nervous at the same time. He wanted to impress Hai Qing and get all his attention.

Pin Jun was not liking this eagerness in Yan Fei. Too desperate, he thought.

Hai Qing arrived a few minutes later.
As he entered the restaurant, he saw Pin Jun first. But who was this beside him? Why did he bring someone else with him on the date?

Hai Qing's smile disappeared as he walked closer towards them.

"What the...it is Yan Fei. What is Yan Fei doing here?" He thought to himself. Thoughts racing through his mind, disturbing his peace.

"Surprise," both Pin Jun and Yan Fei announced at the same time. Unnecessary harmony. Even Pin Jun felt cringed out by his own action.

He noticed the smile disappear from Hai Qing's face. But he didn't want to bring it up just yet. He would talk to Hai Qing later about it.

"We finally meet. Can I get a hug?" Yan Fei was being way too forthcoming.

Pin Jun didn't give him the hug when he wanted it. Yan Fei is offering it to him.

Hai Qing didn't say anything. He just looked at Pin Jun.

Yan Fei didn't wait for an answer. He hugged Hai Qing. Hai Qing reluctantly put his hands around and hugged him back.

"So Pin Jun is my best friend. When I got to know that you two are friends, we decided to surprise you." Yan Fei was grinning with all his shiny white teeth out.

"What is he doing? Auditioning for a toothpaste ad?" Pin Jun thought to himself and smirked.

Making eye contact, Hai Qing replied, "Nice surprise, Pin Jun." His tone was serious.

The subtle tone of sarcasm was received by Pin Jun. So he had messed up. He shouldn't have brought Yan Fei here. But he felt good about it. Should he feel good about it? Hai Qing wasn't happy about this surprise pop-up of Yan Fei. But didn't this also mean that he was closer to Hai Qing than Yan Fei?

Something to celebrate, huh Pin Jun?

Hai Qing only wanted to see him here, not Yan Fei. That made him happy.

Yan Fei pulled the chair for Hai Qing to sit down. His energy was at some other level today. He really did like Hai Qing. A lot.

Hai Qing was fighting with his feelings, not at all liking the fact that Pin Jun brought a third person in what he thought was supposed to be their second date. He was starting to doubt himself now.

Did Pin Jun not like him? If Pin Jun liked him, he would also want a one on one date. The fact that Yan Fei was here meant that Pin Jun was not on the same page as him. He felt disheartened.

So all these feelings he was developing was one-sided? And Pin Jun just considered him a friend? He needed to talk to Pin Jun alone about this. He needed clarity.
