Chapter 20: Her

Dimitri's Point of view

Our motto has always been they come first as we trained to protect the Moroi, but today I was more concerned with protecting my family. What had been drilled into my head didn't matter. My mother and my son were the most vulnerable during this situation. Nikolai, Roza, and I made a protective ring around them.

"Code Blue," I heard someone scream, and we all instantly went into action.

Code Blue meant that Roza was allowed to use her shadow kiss gift, the ghost, and then the others would get the weak ones to safety. Roza used her ability and even though it wasn't visible to us. It gave us the perfect opportunity to run with my mother and son. I did my best to hold off the Strigoi from getting to my family as they ran, I saw my Roza's skin was getting paler. I knew this wasn't good.

I pushed myself to reach her, but I was incredibly late as I was unexpectedly tackled to the ground as I saw my Roza being grabbed my the neck by a Strigoi. That only made me struggle to break loose from those who had me pinned.

The Strigoi picked her up by the neck, but she kept trying to fight her way free, instantly she had both of her hands around his trying to take it away from her throat as she tried to breathe.

" Don't hurt her, master wants her alive," I heard on them say.

" I don't care what the master wants. I'm the one in charge here, not you," the Strigoi said, which made the other one back down.

" let her go now," I screamed as I struggled to break free.

" Such a fighter, we were told of your so-called attachment to this, one," one of them said.

My eyes never left my Roza as I noticed she was looking at me with her beautiful chocolate eyes. The ones our son inherited. But I saw a sadness in hers, the kind that says goodbye. I knew what she was going to do; she was going to surrender herself to them.

" Roza, please no," I begged.

" She stopped fighting, get the injection," said the Strigoi that had his hands around her neck, it made her fall to the floor.

"It's the only way to keep Lissa, our son, and everyone saves. That includes you as well. I wouldn't forgive myself if they hurt any of you. I love you so much," Roza said with almost tears in her eyes.

Roza and I looked at each other, and everything said from I'm sorry to I love you. I felt empty as I was being released. Yet at the same time felt like someone stabbed me, and I couldn't get up. It was like I was burned alive because everything happens right in front of my eyes.

I tried to keep my eyes on my Roza as they dragged her away from me.
