USWNT Pre-2023 World Cup Winter Camp

POV: Y/N

We had been at camp for two weeks, with another two weeks to go, and I was missing home. Training was over for the day and I was heading towards the locker rooms. My phone rang in my back pocket, causing me and two younger players to jump at the sudden sound.

"Ohhhhh don't let Coach find out you have your cell on you!" Trinity Rodman said, laughing softly.

"Coach already knows." I stuck my tongue out at the younger woman. I quickly answered the phone. "Hey babe."

"Hello love, I'm not interrupting am I?" Hope asked.

"Not at all, training just finished. The team is headed into the locker room." I leaned against the wall and sighed softly. "God I miss you."

"I miss you too, my love. How's things going?"

"Kel is being a pain in the ass like normal. Alyssa and Mal are great, they will wanna meet up when you come into town, well, they wanna meet my wife." I smiled brightly, before I heard a gasp behind me. I turned around and spotted Horan and Sonnett. "Love, I gotta go... I'll call you when I get back to my rental. I love you." I vaguely heard Hope respond before I hung up the phone. "How much of that did you just hear?"

"You're married." Horan said, her face falling quickly. She didn't bother saying anything more, just heading into the locker room.

I followed closely, calling out to her. "LINDSEY MICHELLE HORAN GET BACK HERE." She froze, and the whole locker room fell silent. "You don't get to be upset about me living my life."

"Oh I'm not mad at you for living your life, Y/N. What I am upset about is that you lied. To all of us." Her words washed over everyone, causing everyone to look between the two of us. "Oh yeah. You have a hidden life that you aren't telling anyone about."

"What the hell are you talking about Linds?" Alyssa asked, stepping forward. "What hidden life?"

"Oh one of your best friends, Y/N. Let's see what Alyssa or Kell know about your life. Y/N is married. Did you two know that?"

"Yeah, actually." Alyssa said, looking at me. "This is what she's pissed about?"

"She overheard a private conversation I was having, and got it in her head that I've been lying about all kinds of things." I shrugged. "And Kelley was AT my wedding. So..."

"Kelley, who is her wife?" Horan pressed.

Kelley looked at me. I shook my head. She nodded gently and looked back at Horan. "Not my place to say. I am sure once Y/N is comfortable with it, she will tell everyone."

"Seriously? This is bullshit, how can we trust her if she won't tell us anything?" Horan argued, throwing her hands up. "I refuse to work with her."

"Horan, you are treading a very thin line right now." I warned, crossing my arms across my chest. "My personal life has nothing to do with my ability to coach this team. Vlatko has met my wife and is perfectly fine with the situation. Besides, she's going to be at the friendly later this month anyway. If you really really want to meet her, you can. All of you can."

"That's enough." Vlatko spoke up, from the doorway. "The two of you, in my office. Now."

I nodded, not bothering to look away from Horan. She hung her head as she made her way into the coach's office. I looked at Alyssa and Kelley and nodded, keeping my face as neutral as possible. I slipped into the office and shut the door.
