POV: Emily Fox

There I sat, surrounded by my family and friends as the camera was pointed at the chair I was sitting in. I knew, in another apartment in this building, my girlfriend was doing the same. I wanted to do this together tonight, but she wasn't quite ready to have those kinds of questions aimed at her yet. I understood. I wasn't out either, but I wasn't hiding it. I just hoped that we would get to be on the same team, or at least... decently close to each other. My cell phone rang with a number I wasn't familiar with. I knew to answer any calls tonight.

"Hello?"

"May I speak with Emily Fox please?" The voice said, a man.

"This is her." I answered.

"My name is Coach Christy Holly, from Racing Louisville. I'd like to offer you a spot on my team." The man offered, this was it. I was being drafted. Louisville wasn't my first choice, but I couldn't wait.

"It would be an honor sir." I answered, my family around me. "Thank you so much for this opportunity."

"I'll call you back in a few days to organize you officially signing on." Coach Holly said.

Shortly after the call was disconnected and I was left staring at my phone.

"So? Who's colors are we repping?" My mom asked, shifting on her chair.

Before I could respond, the Draft Live Stream came to life once more.

"With the First pick of the first round, Racing Louisville has chosen Defender Emily Fox from University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill." The Commissioner said, as there was a live feed on a large screen behind her. I waved at the people on the stream and smiled.

The live feed cut after a couple of minutes as the next choice was offered to Washington Spirit.

It seemed like forever before I heard a very familiar name.

"With the ninth pick, in the third round, Washington Spirit has chosen Forward Rachel McKinney from University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill." The Commissioner said, showing the live feed of my girlfriend being congratulated by her family. I knew, just a few doors down, her dream had come true. We both got drafted!

"It's kinda sad they are splitting up the dream team." My mom said, putting her hand on my shoulder. "I was hoping you two would be drafted to the same team."

"So was I, but hey, we both got drafted!" I was trying to look on the bright side of things. "Give me a few seconds."

I excused myself from the party as I slipped down the hall of the apartment building. Sending Rachel a quick text, I waited for her to come out. It didn't take long. She slipped out of her apartment and smirked at me.

"Racing Louisville?"

"Washington?"

We spoke at the same time, which honestly made us laugh. I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her tightly to me. "It doesn't matter where, we both got picked. I'm so proud of you, Rach. So so proud."

"I'm proud of you too, dear one." She whispered in my ear. "At least we are pretty close still. It could be a lot worse."

I pressed a kiss to her cheek and smiled. "I've gotta get back, but when everyone goes home, come over so we can celebrate properly?"
