Marcus POV
My hand reached for the door handle and opened it casually. I noticed the way Ariano discreetly covered the files with a sheet and stayed put on my bed.
Nico stood there with a jar of peanut butter and a large shopping bag. It was obvious he bought it a few days ago but why?
This felt oddly familiar. It's almost as if I knew this was how he usually apologized to me.
"I'm sorry." There it was. The soft apology that I subtly remember him saying so many times before.
"Do you just have random gifts stored up somewhere for every time you fuck up?" I eyed the bag then him in curiosity.
"Would it be a bad thing if I did?" He bit his bottom lip nervously as handed the items to me.
I should say no.
But I was really looking forward to having some peanut butter. And it's the creamy kind..... SKIPPY's to be exact.
I took them from him holding them in one hand as I looked back up at him.
I studied him for the first time. Or maybe it wasn't the first but it felt like it was. I studied the way his dark eyelashes covered his gaze completely whenever he looked down. I studied the curve of his lips and the way he actually does blush if you look hard enough. I studied his pale skin that I knew would be smooth to the touch.
I studied those grey eyes that held so many hidden thoughts and emotions. So many unspoken words that were spilling out of them in one look. Then I studied his hand that went up to his hair playing in it, pulling at it. I hated when he did that.
I didn't know why but I hated when his hands reached into those long black strands and pulled at them.
My own hand reached up and held his wrist stopping him from continuing the assault to his hair.
"I don't like it when you do that." I told him flat out and he obliged by sticking those perfect fingers into his pockets.
"Sorry. I know I said I would stop."
"Why do you do that?" He looked straight at me, not up or down at me. He looked straight ahead because I was his equal, and we were the same height.
"Um.... Nerves I guess." His voice came out as a whisper but I was still able to hear him clearly.
I nodded my head only showing that I heard him but kept my face blank. That was something that got easier by the second.
An awkward silence enveloped us and clawed at our ears.
"Will you forgive me?" He finally spoke and I shrugged.
That was obviously not the answer he was looking for since his face completely dropped.
"You said you loved me. Did you mean it?" He didn't have to answer for me to know he did.
"Yes. I do, Marcus. More than anything. More than life itself." That was the only thing he has said to me so far that I have not questioned. Honesty radiated off of him.
