Marcus' POV

Amanda held my hand in hers as she told me everything she wanted at the party.

"This sounds expensive" I looked away for a few seconds as I heard the screeching of what sounded like tires. Maybe that was my first sign to get out of there, but the decision that I made to stay would haunt me as long as I lived.

"Good thing you're paying" I looked down at her and raised an eyebrow.

I leaned down to her ear.

"And how are you going to pay me back exactly?" I teased and she laughed.

"I could add stripping to the list of things I only do for you" I smiled as we both laughed at our attempts at jokes that could in fact be true. Her eyes paused at something behind me before they widened.

She pulled me roughly towards her just as gunshots were heard and we both fell behind the car for cover.

I felt the bullet pierce my shoulder, ripping through the muscle there and she sat next to me, her breathing frantic and her eyes alert.

"Are you okay? Did you get shot?" She asked quickly as her fingers raised the fabric of my shirt checking my abdomen for injuries.

I would've told her yes, as she moved her gaze to my shoulder but I eyed the way she held her stomach as blood dripped through her fingers.

It was coming out too fast. There was too much, almost like the faucet of life was draining out of her way too quickly.

I pulled her onto my lap as tears pricked my eyes. No. Why? Why here? Why her?

I didn't look up right away, but I sensed when Niccolo came over and stared at us both.

The salty tears ran down my cheeks quicker than I could ever stop them.

"It's okay" She whispered as I tried to stop the bleeding covering her hand with my own.

"No it's not okay. It's not. Amanda.... Hey, open your eyes please. I can't lose you too." I tapped her face lightly and she finally looked back up at me.

A knot formed in my throat and a weight formed in my chest.

"You have to leave.... Before they link me to you." I shook my head no and brought her even closer to my body. I smelt the remains of her perfume but it was eventually overpowered by the metallic scent of the red liquid that I was starting to hate more than anything.

"We have to leave Marcus" Nico mumbled and I looked up glaring at him.

How can he be so insensitive? So cruel? I can't.... I can't just leave her here. I can't. She doesn't deserve to die here.

"Fuck off" I screamed at him and that alone hurt my throat as it felt like it was tearing apart.

Nico's eyes dropped to my shoulder but I ignored his concern.
