It's kind of ironic, huh? A couple weeks ago Luke was saving Elaine from her death by saving her from her loneliness, but now he was trying to kill her.

"Luke, put the gun down." Elaine tried to calmly console the psychotic boy.

Her efforts obviously weren't working, for, he didn't budge.

"No." the boy deadpanned.

The tension was palpable and the air was electric with emotion.

"Why are you doing this, Luke?" The words exchanged between them were short and to the point. There was no need for this "conversation" to be drawn out.

"It's so we can be together forever, Elaine." He said in an a slightly mocking fashion while moving his head side-to-side at each word he said.

Despite the possible bad outcomes of her actions, the girl yelled out,"We can NEVER be together!"

Luke shoves the gun closer to her; they were now backing into a corner of her room.

"You need to put the gun down so I can explain." She added with a quiet voice, the antithesis of her previous tone. All she wanted was to get this death device out of her face.

"Why don't you just explain now? Huh? What's the big deal?" he tilts his head like a confused puppy, but with a sinister expression spread across his face. The gun in his hand was now pressed softly against her temple. With one swift movement of his hand he could end this girl's life forever.

He was insane, and Elaine might as well be insane also because of how extremely placid she was now acting.

"Stop it, Luke." Elaine barely pleaded. Her wide, hazel eyes stared at the boy intensely, and her pale face was becoming red due to all the frustration and stress gathered up throughout this whole ordeal.

"COME ON, ELAINE!"

His finger went on the trigger.

"COME O-"

"FINE!" she screamed, cutting him off while viciously flailing her arms about. "YOU WANNA KNOW?"

Luke gave her a curt, yet encouraging, nod. It was finally time for the truth to come out; the big secret that kept Elaine and Luke apart; the whole reason why they were in this mess in the first place..

"You're dead."

Silence.

His trembling hands drop the metal gun, making a loud clanging sound against the hard-wood floor of Elaine's bedroom.

"What?" he says in disbelief.

Elaine simply replies: "When you 'attempted' suicide last year, you actually committed"

Luke's face blanched; it was now the color of a sheet of copy paper.

Elaine continues, "Why do you think I had therapy sessions in the first place?" she asks, "I'm crazy. Mentally insane." The girl speaks the last two words with a sing-song voice while made a circling motion around her head with her finger, indicating she was crazy.

Come to think of it, Elaine never mentioned to Luke why she took therapy, he had just assumed she was depressed because her dad left her and she was bullied.

Regardless of the many questions bubbling in his mind, he stayed silent at her confession.

"I've told you multiple times, Luke, that I'm crazy.

I can see dead people, and I'm the only one who can see you."

More silence.
